Praised from birth : social approval assets in the creation of a new university
2021
Purpose – The authors explore how social approval assets, namely status and reputation, are used to legitimate and categorise a new national university. They argue that in the course of the legitimation process, status and reputation work as stakeholder-oriented value-creating benefits. The authors specifically analyse the discursive constructions and labels used in the process and how the process enables nationwide university reform. Design/methodology/approach – The authors’ longitudinal case study utilises critical discourse analysis and analyses media and policy discourses regarding the birth of Aalto University. Findings –The findings suggest that the legitimation of the new university…
For the oppressed teacher: stay real!
2018
This article addresses teachers’ challenges in relation to other stakeholders, in light of funding policies and evaluation mechanisms. In particular, a condition where pressures toward high pass rates or ‘throughput’ in the degree system provide a good negotiation position for students with little learning orientation as to their aspirations after credit units is considered. This condition is intensified by the fact that the mere completion goals of non-learning-oriented students align with the collective goals of administration (university), given the throughput-based funding policies. A teacher willing to honorably exercise the profession is, then, ‘squeezed in between.’ Daily teaching end…
Le séminaire de lectura aux cours universitaires. Une proposition: "Le bal", de Irène Némirovsky
2017
A Theory for Multilayered Composite Beams
2014
Composite laminates are nowadays widely employed as lightweight components in civil engineering, automotive and aerospace applications due to their excellent mechanical properties, such as, the high strength and stiffness per unit weight, the path loads management capability. Moreover by using composite laminated materials it is possible to manufacture large size structures with less riveted joints, which leads to a reduction of the overall structural complexity and of the manufacturing and inspection times and costs. A drawback of layered composites is represented by the the low values of throughthe-thickness tensile and shear strengths, with respect to the in-plane ones, that affect the o…
Czy lekcje języka polskiego uczą myślenia ?
2020
W pierwszej prezentuję kategorię pytania z perspektywy pragmatycznej, gramatycznej i dydaktycznej, w drugiej…
Social, health care and rehabilitation educators' competence in professional education—Empirical testing of a model
2021
The social and health care educator's role in educating future professionals need to be stronger emphasised and deserves international recognition. The purpose of this study was to develop and test an empirical model of social and health care educators' competence in higher and professional education. The presented research employed a cross-sectional study design. Data were collected using HeSoEduCo-instrument from 28 educational institutions in Finland. The model was empirically tested with confirmatory factor analysis through Structural Equation Modelling that applied the Full Imputation Maximum Likelihood estimator. A total of 422 social and health care educators participated in the stud…
Work-life Balance Decision-making of Norwegian Students: Implications for Human Resources Management
2016
Objective : The paper aims at identifying and assessing the significance of work-life balance determinants between the Youth of highly developed societies and its implications for human resources management on the example of Norway. It employed literature analysis, two-stage exploratory research: direct individual in-depth interviews, survey based on a self-administered, web-based questionnaire with single-answer, limited choice qualitative & quantitative, as well as explanatory research (informal moderated group discussions). Findings: The research on per…
Modelling competences and anticipating the future competence needs in the forest sector
2018
This explorative study examined practices of competence modelling in the forest sector organisations and how organisations anticipate changes in competence needs in the future. Semi-structured in-depth interviews (n=10) were conducted amongst forest sector experts in Finland and data was analysed by thematic analysis. The findings showed that the practices of modelling competences were diverse, most frequently used ones being superior-subordinate review discussions and quantitative competence surveys. In addition to these formal systems, informal modelling, especially on the team level and in smaller companies was also frequent. Organisations used competence modelling for several human reso…
