Insights into international branch campuses: Mapping trends through a systematic review
2019
Abstract This study analyzes international branch campus (IBC) literature trends from 1960 to 2017 through a systematic review of the different research approaches, views, and positions to map the global scientific production. Over the last two decades, universities worldwide have opened branch campuses abroad, reaching a peak of 249 across thirty-three countries in January 2017. In fact, international studies and surveys have identified a 26% increase over the last five years as well as a concentration of the industry. Since 2017, the emergent field of IBC has experienced a geometric growth regarding the number of academic publications on this topic. The results of the review indicate an i…
The influence of university brand image, satisfaction, and university identification on alumni WOM intentions
2021
This study investigates the influence of university brand image, satisfaction, and alumni’s university identification on positive word-of-mouth (WOM) intentions. The model is tested using data coll...
Brand Fan Pages experience and strength as antecedents to engagement and intensity of use to achieve HEIS’ brand loyalty

ABSTRACTThe growing competitive environment in which Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are immersed has caused them to be constantly focused on implementing new strategies that allow them to con...
Key Elements in Building Relationships in the Higher Education Services Context
2015
In a context of globalized higher education, new stakeholders have emerged, and building stronger relationships between them is of the utmost relevance in today's environment. The approach from the graduate perspective helps reinforce bonds and manage lifelong learning in an innovative way. This study empirically tests a model that includes variables such as university image, student–professor interaction, satisfaction, identification, and loyalty, which are topics of increasing relevance for competitive and innovative universities. The results show the relationships among the variables, which can explain loyalty behavioral intentions. The article concludes with the managerial implications …
Transformative Quality in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs): Conceptualisation, scale development and validation
2021
With the increasing post-massification of higher education institutions (HEIs), access-providing business schools (vs elite educational institutions) continue to rank at the bottom in terms of quality. This study defines and develops a measure of quality in the context of access-providing business schools in a developing country. Access-providing private business schools face competing challenges of balancing inclusiveness and access with excellence and quality. Pursuing inclusiveness and access alongside excellence and quality seems a utopian ideal. However, this study propounds transformative quality as key for addressing these conflicting issues, which have long impacted post-massificati…

2018
We review the teaching in Botany at the beginning of the 70s of the last century in the newly created section of Biology of the School of Sciences of the University of Valencia. The work developed there by Profes…
Lessons for mathematics higher education from 25 years of mathematics support
2018
International audience; The scale and scope of mathematics support within UK universities have grown significantly since the 1990s. Mathematics support has evolved from a ‘cottage industry' initiated by enthusiasts into a main-line student support provision overseen by institutional senior managers. Over this 25+ year period, the importance of the mathematical sciences in other disciplines has similarly boomed. No longer is it just engineering and physics undergraduates who need to acquire highly developed mathematical skills. Today geographers, bioscientists, sociologists and political scientists (to name but a few) have to be more skilled than ever before with understanding mathematical a…
Determining an unbounded potential for an elliptic equation with a power type nonlinearity
2022
In this article we focus on inverse problems for a semilinear elliptic equation. We show that a potential $q$ in $L^{n/2+\varepsilon}$, $\varepsilon>0$, can be determined from the full and partial Dirichlet-to-Neumann map. This extends the results from [M. Lassas, T. Liimatainen, Y.-H. Lin, and M. Salo, Partial data inverse problems and simultaneous recovery of boundary and coefficients for semilinear elliptic equations, Rev. Mat. Iberoam. (2021)] where this is shown for H\"older continuous potentials. Also we show that when the Dirichlet-to-Neumann map is restricted to one point on the boundary, it is possible to determine a potential $q$ in $L^{n+\varepsilon}$. The authors of arXiv:2202.0…
University Applicants’ Critical Thinking Skills: The Case of the Finnish Educational Sciences
2016
This study investigates the quality of the critical thinking skills of applicants (n = 77) seeking entry to the faculty of educational sciences in a Finnish university and how these skills are associated with the applicant’s age, previous higher education experience, and matriculation and entrance examination scores. The data consist of the applicants’ responses to problem-solving tasks and their matriculation and entrance examination scores. Critical thinking skills were measured with comparison and argumentation tasks. The results indicate that comparison of the texts and analysis of the arguments they contained were more difficult tasks than putting forward arguments both for and against…
