Preventing Violence and Social Exclusion through Sport and Physical Activity: The SAVE Project

Sport Against Violence and Exclusion (SAVE), a project cofounded by the Erasmus + Program of the European Union, seeks to prevent violent and socially exclusive behaviors through physical activity. The current editorial shows a range of possible interpretations of these two phenomena from both a psychological and sociological point of view, offering helpful methods to coaches who train children (ages 6 to 12)in grass-root sport clubs. AbstractThe chaperone system (CS) of an organism is composed of molecular chaperones, chaperone co-factors, co-chaperones, and chaperone receptors and interactors. It is present throughout the body but with distinctive features for each cell and tissue type. Previous studies pertaining to the CS of the salivary glands have determined the quantitative and distribution patterns for several members, the chaperones, in normal and diseased glands, focusing on tumors. Timm-staining intensity is correlated with the density of Timm-positive presynaptic structures in the cerebral cortex of lizards

In cortical areas of the lizard, Podarcis hispanica, Timm staining reveals a distinct pattern of lamination. At the electron-microscope level, virtually all of the reaction product is located in the synaptic vesicles of Timm-positive boutons. Using linear-regression analysis, the area density of Timm-positive bouton profiles as well as the numerical and volume density of stained vesicles were found to be closely correlated with the light-microscopic densitometric values obtained for each Timm-positive cortical zone. We discuss the possibility of estimating stereological electron-microscopic data parameters from densitometric measurements at the light-microscope level.

It has only recently been recognized that intermediate filaments (IFs) and their assembly intermediates are highly motile cytoskeletal components with cell-type- and isotype-specific characteristics. To elucidate the cell-type-independent contribution of actin filaments and microtubules to these motile properties, fluorescent epithelial IF keratin polypeptides were introduced into non-epithelial, adrenal cortex-derived SW13 cells. Blood flow shapes intravascular pillar geometry in the chick chorioallantoic membrane.

The relative contribution of blood flow to vessel structure remains a fundamental question in biology. To define the influence of intravascular flow fields, we studied tissue islands--here defined as intravascular pillars--in the chick chorioallantoic membrane. Pillars comprised 0.02 to 0.5% of the vascular system in 2-dimensional projection and were predominantly observed at vessel bifurcations. Trans-sarcolemmal proteins located inside, within, and outside of the muscle fibre plasma membrane fall into two categories, the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC) and non-DGC-related proteins, e.g. dysferlin, caveolin, dystrobrevins and syntrophins. Mutational defects are responsible for their immunohistochemical absence or reduction giving rise to certain muscular dystrophies. Histochemical and biochemical investigations concerning the function of larval oenocytes of Tenebrio molitor L. (Coleoptera, Insecta).

Larval oenocytes of Tenebrio molitor were investigated histochemically. In contrast to the lipid droplets of the fat body, they did not stain with Sudan black. A positive reaction for lipoproteins appeared only after destructive oxidation with sodium hypochlorite. These lipoproteins are the remnants of degenerated membranes, as revealed by ultrastructural analysis. Polyphenols could be identified in the exocuticle of exuvia, and in the newly formed procuticle. Endocuticle, epidermis and oenocytes showed no staining reaction. In oenocytes a great amount of lipase is also present which could be detected with several Tweens as substrates.
