Kryotherapie maligner Tumoren: Untersuchungen mittels MRT im Tierexperiment und Vergleich mit morphologischen Veränderungen*

2001

son with pathological changes in mice. Purpose: Aim of our study was to investigate the efficacy of 7 F cryoprobes for percutaneous use morpho- and histologically, to examine the role of apoptosis after cryotherapy, and to compare contrast-enhanced MRI with histopathological findings at different time intervals in a tumor-mouse model. Methods: Percutaneous cryotherapy was performed in 15 immunocompromised nude mice with subcutaneously implanted tumors using the non-small-cell lung cancer cell line Lu 1. In group a) 7 mice were sacrificed after definite time intervals and histological examinations were done for evaluation of necrosis and apoptosis (HE; TUNEL assay); 2 mice are in long-term f…

The histology and immunohistochemistry of free buccal mucosa and full-skin grafts after exposure to urine

1999

Objective To investigate the histological and immunohistochemical behaviour of free buccal mucosa and full-skin grafts after exposure to urine. Materials and methods A buccal mucosal graft and a full-skin graft were freely transferred into the bladder of 12 minipigs, after stripping the bladder mucosa. Endoscopic investigations were carried out 2 and 5 months after surgery, and the grafts examined after death at 7 months, both histologically and immunohistochemically. Results Shrinkage of the full-skin graft was apparent endoscopically in five cases. Of the nine full-skin grafts, four showed severe inflammatory reactions, two necrosis and two ulcerations. Conversely, the 10 buccal mucosal g…

Methylene blue-aided cholangioscopy in patients with biliary strictures: feasibility and outcome analysis

2008

BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS: Chromoendoscopy using methylene blue is employed in the gastrointestinal tract to delineate neoplastic lesions. We tested the value of chromoendoscopy during choledochoscopy for characterization of local inflammation, neoplasias, and other alterations in patients with biliary strictures. METHODS: Patients with suspected biliary lesions were scheduled for endoscopic retrograde cholangiography with subsequent cholangioscopy. After initial inspection of the bile duct, 15 ml methylene blue (0.1 %) was administered via the working channel of the cholangioscope. Newly appearing circumscribed or unstained lesions were judged according to their macroscopic type and staini…

Proximale Verankerung von Hüft-Endoprothesen mit poröser Oberfläche: 6-Jahres-Ergebnisse

2008

PROBLEM The anatomically shaped pcl (ESKA) total hip replacement has a porous coating of the proximal stem and the cup to allow for bony ingrowth. The tip of the stem is polished. METHOD We report the results of 96 THR 6.2 years (5.25-6.7) after implantation. RESULTS There were no revisions during this period. One stem showed radiographic loosening at follow-up. There was stress-shielding in 9.4% in contrast to the concept of proximal fixation. Thigh-pain was found in 9.4%. One patient demonstrated disabling thigh-pain despite radiologic bony ingrowth. By drilling the femur distal to the tip of the stem a remarkable relief was achieved. CONCLUSION Despite numerous cases of stress-shielding …

Two-Step Digital Follow-up of Patients at High Risk for Melanoma: a Retrospective Analysis of 152 Patients

2021

A regenerative 3D scaffold for inguinal hernia repair. MR imaging and histological cross evidence. Qualitative study

2021

Abstract Background Inguinal hernia is a degenerative disease occurring in a high motile surround. Stopping degeneration and promoting tissue regeneration should be the treatment goal. Groin hernias are conventionally managed with static flat meshes, mostly fixated to the delicate inguinal environment. Far from a regenerative effect, the biologic response of conventional hernia meshes is characterized by a foreign body reaction leading to a stiff/shrunken scar plate, which is often the source of unpleasant complications. Recently, a newly engineered 3D device for inguinal hernia repair – ProFlor-has been developed to produce a regenerative biological response. Unlike conventional hernia mes…

The influence of the C1-inhibitor BERINERT® and the protein-free haemodialysate ACTIHAEMYL20%® on the evolution of the depth of scald burns in a porc…

1997

Standardized deep partial-thickness burns were inflicted on domestic pigs by scalding 30 per cent of the skin surface for 25 s with 75 degrees C hot water. The animals (n = 18; weight 25-35 kg) were divided into three groups: I, control group (n = 6), Ringer's lactate only; II, haemodialysate group (n = 6), Ringer's lactate and a protein-free haemodialysate of calf-blood (ACTIHAEMYL20%; AH) and III, C1-inhibitor group (n = 6), Ringer's lactate and C1-inhibitor (C1-INH; BERINERT). Skin biopsies were taken at defined time points (4, 28, 52 and 76 h) and investigated histologically. Depth of burn was determined morphometrically after coloration with a modified MTT-staining on frozen sections o…

Accuracy of automatic airway morphometry in computed tomography-correlation of radiological-pathological findings.

2010

Abstract Objectives Airway morphology shows characteristic changes in different pathologies. This study assesses the accuracy of a current automatic airway assessment technique by correlating CT images of porcine airways to histological slices of the same localization. Materials and methods Four isolated and ventilated porcine lungs were frozen in a liquid nitrogen bath and examined with a CT scanner (MDCT). This technique both preserved normal radiomorphological appearance and made it possible to slice the specimens for histological examination for subsequent correlation. The parameters wall thickness (WT), wall percentage (WP), and total diameter (TD) were assessed by computer-aided measu…
