Safeguarding the historic town of San Fratello, Sicily
2013
The paper presents the case history of San Fratello, a small town on the Nebrodi Mountains in Sicily rich in history and with very peculiar environmental and cultural characteristics. Both slopes of the narrow ridge where San Fratello is seated had been affected in 1754, 1922, 1986 and 2010 by very large landslides which caused the failure of a lot of buildings and historical monuments in the town. The paper illustrates the analyses carried out in the 2010 landslide and the design of stabilization works still in progress. Some problematic aspects related to the decision to safeguard San Fratello are discussed.
Cuerpos moldeables y vidas modulables: La invención del estado holísticamente saludable como bienestar (integral)
2020
The article argues ?from the Deleuzian concepts of society of control, moulding and modulation and the Rosean theory on the economization and medicalization of life? that the expansion of the concept of health in terms of integral and subjective well-being is the effect of a socio-historical shift in the way we relate to this signifier, and therefore to our bodies and ourselves. We use this interpretative network to analyze the effects that the biopsychosocial health paradigm has had in the context of aesthetic surgery and fitness practice. As a result, we see that the expansion of the concept of health has extended the domain of medicine into the spheres of personal care and physical appea…
The multidisciplinary origin of soil geography: A review
2018
Abstract Soil geography should be clearly recognized as a sub-discipline of physical geography and soil science, but at various times over the last century it was accepted as a complementary and descriptive sub-discipline of botany, agronomy and geology. In other words, there was not a clear consensus about its definition and origins. The main goal of this paper is to conduct a historical review (s. XX-XXI) of soil geography to clarify its origin, early methods, first authors and the importance of its interdisciplinary perspective within the scientific community. We found that soil geography was considerably advanced by the work of K.D. Glinka (1867–1927), one of Dokuchaev's students, who c…

The article concludes that The Longest March qualifies as a “metahistorical romance”, as it blurs the boundary between fiction and nonfiction while questioning historical discourse.

The Maredolce Castle and the Scibene Palace, owing to the loss of original elements or due to problems of conservation and function, once resolved, cannot be part of the itinerary. This text proposes a new reading of the configuration of the sites of the monuments analysed. It looks at important moments in their history and represents the modifications made over time. A digital model of the current situation was developed using information assumed from the Carta Tecnica Comunale (Municipal Technical Map). This document served as a start…
