Company stakeholder responsibility : an empirical investigation of top managers’ attitudinal change
2017
Purpose Company stakeholder responsibility considers stakeholder engagement and management as key to long-term firm success. The purpose of this paper is to examine how top managers’ stakeholder responsibility attitudes change and how they balance stakeholder responsibilities and economic interests. Design/methodology/approach The authors conducted empirical research using the company stakeholder responsibility framework by conducting a repeated cross-sectional survey in Finland in 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009 and 2014. Findings The study shows how development in the business context influences managers’ attitudes towards stakeholder responsibility. Simultaneously with the expansion of free comp…
Les choix des parties prenantes dans les organisations de microfinance au Sénégal
2019
As African organizations operate according to universal principles (Western) while such principles often ignore African specificities, this study proposes to relate Western theory to African specificities. This doctoral study examines a Western model, the Mitchell and al. (1997)’s model, applied to the governance of microfinance organizations in Senegal. Many researches explain that microfinance organizations’ problems are related to corporate governance difficulties. Moreover, most studies consider that the concept of stakeholder is the foundation of the governance of microfinance organizations. Finally, the model of Mitchelland al. (1997) is cited as one of the most relevant typologies in…
Cultural differences in nature park management and visitor experiences in a French-Hungarian comparison
2016
Cross-cultural investigations in management prevail over those on for-profit organizations, while intercultural studies on protected natural areas is a relatively untapped field of research. This thesis proposes cross-cultural models (adapted from the existing model of Hofstede, along with marketing and management concepts) for the analysis of the park management and visitor experiences at (protected) European natural parks. Among the various methods used, the most relevant were the semi-directed interviews with actors of the park management and the visitor survey, while document analysis and observations also completed our findings. Using our analysis of the park management, stakeholders, …

Most-Favoured-Nation Treatment, Survival Clauses and Reform of International Investment Law
2016
In the last decade, international investment law has been on a trajectory of rapid evolution with reform high on agenda priorities. Reform requires a reconciliation of competing interests, which is generally so difficult to achieve that it is often unclear whether an option constitutes ‘reform’ or unwanted change. Two specific treaty provisions, the most-favoured-nation (MFN) treatment and survival clauses, can interfere with the reform process and become an impediment to changing the rules of the game. This is particularly true when political will is present. The MFN treatment, a guarantee of non-discrimination present in the quasi-totality of investment treaties, can have far-reaching ram…
Are Cities Aware Enough? A Framework for Developing City Awareness to Climate Change
2020
Cities are growing and becoming more complex, and as they continue to do so, their capacity to deal with foreseen and unforeseen challenges derived from climate change has to adapt accordingly. In the last decade, an effort has been made to build city resilience and improve cities' capacity to respond to, recover from and adapt to climate change. However, certain city stakeholders' lack of proactive behavior has resulted in less effective city resilience-building strategies. In this sense, the importance of developing stakeholders&rsquo
Environmental Voluntary Programs in the Transport Industry in the Post-COVID Situation: The French Experience
2022
This study investigates the drivers impacting the success of the environmental voluntary program recently launched in France. This program, titled EVE (Engagements Volontaires pour l’Environnement), aims to improve transport operators’ efficiency and to reduce CO2 emissions in the environment. Due to the complexity of the context in which the EVE program is implemented, we used a System Dynamics (SD) approach. This study offers multiple contributions. First, studying the dynamic interdependences of voluntary programs aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the transport industry can help policymakers in designing successful policies. In addition, the study can help transport operators engaged…
Information Disclosure and Sustainable Competitive Advantage: Evidence from the Spanish Tourism Industry
2022
Of all the resources and capabilities that have a well-established impact on decision-making, information stands out. With the advent of the digital economy, organizations have been making significant information and communication technology (ICT) investments, but the empirical evidence of the impact of these investments on business outcomes has been inconsistent. This article studies the conditions that disclosed information resources and ICT must fulfil in order to become a source of sustainable competitive advantage in tourism organizations. The results point to the need to identify distinct financial and non-financial information dimensions, distinguished according to their direct poten…
O modelo da economia do bem comum: abordagem a partir da abordagem organizacional e análise bibliométrica
2019
Configurations of the Interactive Use of Environmental Management Control
2013
This paper explores the use of interactive environmental management control. In order to do this, a theoretical model is designed drawing on the framework of Simons (1995) and instrumental stakeholder theory. This model defines three dimensions of interactive control: forms of interactivity (vertical, horizontal, external), frequencies of interactivity (high, medium, low) and decision levels (strategic, tactical, operational). Four typical configurations emerge from application of the model to empirical data from ten case studies: eco-designers, eco-institutionals, eco-managers and eco-educators. These configurations show the diverse roles of interactive environmental management control in …
