Dioxidomolybdenum(VI) and –tungsten(VI) complexes with tetradentate amino bisphenolates as catalysts for epoxidation

2017

Sixteen molybdenum and tungsten complexes with tripodal or linear tetradentate amino bisphenol ligands were studied as catalysts for the epoxidation of cis-cyclooctene, 1-octene, styrene, limonene and α-terpineol. These complexes can be divided into different categories upon key features, i.e. central metal (Mo versus W), side-arm donor (O versus N), hybridization of the N-donor (pyridine versus amine), ligand geometry (tripodal versus linear diamine) and sterical hindrance (Me versus tert-Bu substituents in the phenol part). All complexes can catalyse selectively the epoxidation of cis-cyclooctene by tert-butylhydroperoxide whereas the activities and selectivities towards other olefins (1-…

An integrated analytical approach to define the compositional and textural features of mortars used in the underwater archaeological site of castrum …

2019

This paper aims to carry out an archaeometric characterization of mortar samples taken from an underwater environment. The fishpond of the archaeological site of Castrum Novum (Santa Marinella, Rome, Italy) was chosen as a pilot site for experimentation. The masonry structures reached the maximum thickness at the apex of the fishpond (4.70 m) and consisted of a concrete conglomerate composed of slightly rough stones of medium size bound with non-hydraulic mortar. After sampling, for a complete characterization of selected mortar fragments, different and complementary techniques (stereomicroscopy, polarizing optical microscopy, and X-ray powder diffraction analysis) were carried out in order…

Evidencias de un recubrimiento de magnetita artificial en el armamento íbero

2011

A metallographic study of two pre-roman Iberian arms, affected by a cremation process, revealed the presence of an outer magnetite layer, providing highly protective properties. This layer is extraordinarily tenacious and of very homogeneous thickness, indicating an intentional manufacturing process rather than an accidental formation during the severe heating/cooling cycles the artefact suffered. Up to date, the intentional production of these types of layers has been attributed to a welding process of three different metallic sheets, here an alternative model is proposed, allowing, as could be simulated in the laboratory, the virtually exclusive formation of a magnetite coating.<br>…

A blow-up result for a nonlinear wave equation on manifolds: the critical case

2021

We consider a inhomogeneous semilinear wave equation on a noncompact complete Riemannian manifold (Formula presented.) of dimension (Formula presented.), without boundary. The reaction exhibits the combined effects of a critical term and of a forcing term. Using a rescaled test function argument together with appropriate estimates, we show that the equation admits no global solution. Moreover, in the special case when (Formula presented.), our result improves the existing literature. Namely, our main result is valid without assuming that the initial values are compactly supported.

The Association between Lead and Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder: A Systematic Review.

2019

The etiology of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is complex and multifactorial. Although the development of ADHD symptoms remains to be elucidated, in recent years, epigenetic processes have emerged as candidate mechanisms. Lead is one of the most dangerous environmental pollutants, and it is suspected to be associated with ADHD. The aim of the present study was to review the epidemiological literature currently available on the relation between lead exposure and the diagnosis of ADHD. The PubMed and EMBASE databases were searched from 1 July 2018 up to 31 July 2018. The authors included observational studies (cohort, case–control and cross-sectional studies) published in Eng…

Classification of coronary artery bifurcation lesions and treatments: time for a consensus

2008

Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) of coronary bifurcation lesions remains a subject of debate. Many studies have been published in this setting. They are often small scale and display methodological flaws and other shortcomings such as inaccurate designation of lesions, heterogeneity, and inadequate description of techniques implemented. Methods: The aim is to propose a consensus established by the European Bifurcation Club (EBC), on the definition and classification of bifurcation lesions and treatments implemented with the purpose of allowing comparisons between techniques in various anatomical and clinical settings. Results: A bifurcation lesion is a coronary artery na…

First-trimester neck abnormalities: three-dimensional evaluation.

1998

In order to study the first trimester ultrasonographic differences between nuchal translucency and hygroma colli, we rescanned 25 fetuses (13 with nuchal translucency and 12 with hygroma colli) using transvaginal and three-dimensional ultrasonography, after obtaining a fetal karyotype report. Our objective was to test the premise that the different physiopathologic mechanisms of both processes would be reflected in detectable sonographic differences. Our retrospective analysis showed that the most striking ultrasonographic difference was the presence of bullae as well as greater irregularity, extent, and amplitude of the membrane in cases of hygroma colli. Fetuses with simple nuchal translu…

Studying hypertension in ocular fundus images using Hausdorff dispersion ordering.

2010

Retinal arterial and vein diameters are altered in individuals at risk of cardiovascular events mainly due to high blood pressure. The measurement of retinal vessel diameters has been proved to reflect individuals' vascular health. Dispersion of such measures which are obtained by means of ocular fundus images is a major factor not usually considered in clinical research. In this paper, a method to evaluate if different levels of clinically relevant covariables induce greater dispersion in retinal arterial and vein diameters is proposed. A multivariate dispersion ordering, the Hausdorff dispersion order, is used to compare the level of dispersion in such diameters for different groups of pa…

Dimensional Classification as an Instrument for Biological Research in Endogenous Depression

1986

Biological psychiatry needs highly reliable classifications capable of supplying research with homogeneous groups of patients. Operational diagnoses (OPD abbreviated) have been introduced to serve this aim. At present, research in endogenous depression can choose among more than ten different operational diagnoses, all purporting to be valid for diagnosing endogenous depression. Eight of these operational diagnoses are listed in Table 1.

Verification of a commercial implementation of the Macro-Monte-Carlo electron dose calculation algorithm using the virtual accelerator approach.

2009

Abstract In this work, the accuracy of the implementation of the Macro Monte Carlo electron dose calculation algorithm into the radiation therapy treatment planning system Eclipse is evaluated. This implementation – called eMC – uses a particle source based on the Rotterdam Initial Phase-Space model. A three-dimensional comparison of eMC calculated dose to dose distributions resulting from full treatment head simulations with the Monte Carlo code package EGSnrc is performed using the ‘virtual accelerator’ approach. Calculated dose distributions are compared for a homogeneous tissue equivalent phantom and a water phantom with air and bone inhomogeneities. The performance of the eMC algorithm…
