Effect of three-body forces on response functions in infinite neutron matter

International audience; We study the impact of three-body forces on the response functions of cold neutron matter. These response functions are determined in the random phase approximation (RPA) from a residual interaction expressed in terms of Landau parameters. Special attention is paid to the non-central part, including all terms allowed by the relevant symmetries. Using Landau parameters derived from realistic nuclear two- and three-body forces grounded in chiral effective field theory, we find that the three-body term has a strong impact on the excited states of the system and in the static and long-wavelength limit of the response functions for which a new exact formula is established.

Synthesis and coordinating ability of an anionic cobaltabisdicarbollide ligand geometrically analogous to BINAP.

The anionic chelating ligand [1,1'-(PPh 2 ) 2 -3,3'-Co(1,2-C 2 B 9 H 1 0 ) 2 ] - has been synthesized from [3,3'-Co(1,2-C 2 B 4 H 1 1 ) 2 ] - in very good yield in a one-pot process with an easy work-up procedure. The coordinating ability of this ligand has been studied with Group 11 metal ions (Ag, Au) and with transition-metal ions (Pd, Rh). The two dicarbollide halves of the [1,1'-(PPh 2 ) 2 -3,3'-Co(1,2-C 2 B 9 H 1 0 ) 2 ] - ligand can swing about one axis in a manner analogous to the constituent parts of BINAP and ferrocenyl phosphine derivatives. Fracture mechanics of snow avalanches.

Dense snow avalanches are analyzed by modeling the snow slab as an elastic and brittle plate, attached by static friction to the underlying ground. The grade of heterogeneity in the local fracture (slip) thresholds, and the ratio of the average substrate slip threshold to the average slab fracture threshold, are the decisive parameters for avalanche dynamics. For a strong pack of snow there appears a stable precursor of local slips when the frictional contacts are weakened (equivalent to rising temperature), which eventually trigger a catastrophic crack growth that suddenly releases the entire slab. The genomic history of the Aegean palatial civilizations

Summary The Cycladic, the Minoan, and the Helladic (Mycenaean) cultures define the Bronze Age (BA) of Greece. Urbanism, complex social structures, craft and agricultural specialization, and the earliest forms of writing characterize this iconic period. We sequenced six Early to Middle BA whole genomes, along with 11 mitochondrial genomes, sampled from the three BA cultures of the Aegean Sea. The Early BA (EBA) genomes are homogeneous and derive most of their ancestry from Neolithic Aegeans, contrary to earlier hypotheses that the Neolithic-EBA cultural transition was due to massive population turnover. Assembling a consensus on actinic cheilitis: A Delphi study.

Aims: To discuss the terminology to define and classify actinic cheilitis (AC) and to build a consensus on the diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to AC. Methods: Two-round Delphi study using a questionnaire including 34 closed sentences (9 on terminology and taxonomy, 5 on potential for malignant transformation, 12 on diagnostic aspects, 8 on treatment) and 8 open questions. Experts’ agreement was rated using a Likert scale (1–7). Results: A consensus was reached on 24 out 34 statements (73.5%) and on 5 out of 8 (62.5%) close-ended questions. Gδ covers of compact spaces

We solve a long standing question due to Arhangel'skii by constructing a compact space which has a Gδ cover with no continuum-sized (Gδ)-dense subcollection. We also prove that in a countably compact weakly Lindelöf normal space of countable tightness, every Gδ cover has a -sized subcollection with a Gδ-dense union and that in a Lindelöf space with a base of multiplicity continuum, every Gδ cover has a continuum sized subcover. We finally apply our results to obtain a bound on the cardinality of homogeneous spaces which refines De La Vega's celebrated theorem on the cardinality of homogeneous compacta of countable tightness.

Solution of a cauchy problem for an infinite chain of linear differential equations

Defining the recurrence relations for orthogonal polynomials we have found an exact solution of a Cauchy problem for an infinite chain of linear differential equations with constant coefficients. These solutions have been found both for homogeneous and an inhomogeneous systems.

Degrees of irreducible characters of the symmetric group and exponential growth

We consider sequences of degrees of ordinary irreducible S n S_n - characters. We assume that the corresponding Young diagrams have rows and columns bounded by some linear function of n n with leading coefficient less than one. We show that any such sequence has at least exponential growth and we compute an explicit bound.

Electromagnetic transitions of heavy baryons in theSU(2Nf)⊗O(3)symmetry

We apply heavy quark symmetry to the radiative decays of heavy baryons. Even with this symmetry in place there are too many couplings to make a meaningful set of predictions. We show that if, in addition, light-diquark symmetries are applied, the number of electromagnetic couplings among S wave and P wave states as well as those between P wave to S wave transitions can be reduced significantly. Using this constituent quark model picture a number of predictions are made that will be testable in the near future.
