The tumor-agnostic treatment for patients with solid tumors: a position paper on behalf of the AIOM- SIAPEC/IAP-SIBioC-SIF Italian Scientific Societi…

2021

The personalized medicine is in a rapidly evolving scenario. The identification of actionable mutations is revolutionizing the therapeutic landscape of tumors. The morphological and histological tumor features are enriched by the extensive genomic profiling, and the first tumor-agnostic drugs have been approved regardless of tumor histology, guided by predictive and druggable genetic alterations. This new paradigm of "mutational oncology", presents a great potential to change the oncologic therapeutic scenario, but also some critical aspects need to be underlined. A process governance is mandatory to ensure the genomic testing accuracy and homogeneity, the economic sustainability, and the r…

Production of vegetable oil-based biofuels—Thermochemical behavior of fatty acid sodium salts during pyrolysis

2009

Abstract To develop an advanced pyrolysis process for various biomass-derived feedstocks and improve product quality and yield, in-depth investigations into the reaction mechanisms are needed. This paper reports on pyrolysis experiments (Py-GC/MSD and FID) with model compounds including the sodium salts of stearic (C18), oleic (C18:1), and linoleic (C18:2) acids principally obtained from alkaline hydrolysis of vegetable oils. Of the parameters studied – temperature (450–750 °C), time (20 s and 80 s), and the degree of unsaturation (i.e., saturated and mono- and dienoic C18-hydrocarbon chains) – the latter had the most significant effect on the formation of volatile compounds detected in pyr…

Über die oligomerisierung von Cycloocten

1972

Cyclooctene was oligomerized in the presence of the catalytic system WCl6/C2H5OH/C2H5AlCl2 in order to prepare the homologous series (C8H14)n. The conditions of reaction were established particularly with respect to the catalyst concentration. The influence of the solvent was investigated. The oligomers pre…

Adducts of tin(IV) and organotin(IV) derivatives with 2,2′-azopyridine II. Crystal and molecular structure of SnMe2Br2AZP and further mössbauer and p…

1990

Abstract A series of adducts of tin(IV) derivatives with 2,2′-azopyridine, AZP, has been studied by Mossbauer and X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopies and the crystal and molecular structure of SnMe2Br2- AZP has been determined. The linear correlation of the Mossbauer parameter isomer shift with partial atomic charge on tin suggests the occurrence of a single homologous series of isostructural adducts. The correlation of the Mossbauer parameter quadrupole splitting and C-Sn-C bond angle permits their calculation in SnMe2X2AZP adducts (X = Cl, Br). The N1s binding energies, obtained by XPS data, pointed out two slightly different values for both pyridinic and azo-group nitrogens. The crystal…

Gas chromatography of homologous esters

1984

Abstract The gas chromatographic retention behaviour of the propanoyl and monochloropropanoyl esters of saturated C3C5 branched-chain and unsaturated C3C6 alcohols on SE-30 and OV-351 capillary columns at several temperatures is reported. Retention index increments at 80 and 120°C show the effect of branching in the alkyl chain and also the effect of unsaturation and of its position in the chain with chlorination at the two possible positions in the acyl chain. The various incremental effects are discussed and compared with the behaviour of the corresponding n-alkyl esters.

The influence of bone allograft processing on osteoblast attachment and function

2004

In order to assess the influence of eight different sterilisation and disinfection methods for bone allografts on adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation of human bone marrow stromal cells (BMSC), cells were grown in culture and then plated onto pieces of human bone allografts. Following processing methods were tested: autoclavation (AUT), low-temperature-plasma sterilisation of demineralised allografts (D-LTP), ethylene oxide sterilisation (EtO), fresh frozen bone (FFB), 80 degrees C-thermodisinfection (80 degrees C), gamma-irradiation (Gamma), chemical solvent disinfection (CSD), and Barrycidal-disinfection (BAR). The seeding efficiency was determined after one hour to detect the num…

Adsorption properties of soluble surface active stilbazium dyes at the air-water interface

2007

The adsorption behaviour of a homologous series of amphiphilic hemicyanines is studied at the air-water interface. The dyes exhibit an unusual, marked odd-even effect with respect to the standard free energy of adsorption and the minimum surface area demand. The reasons for such strong, hitherto unknown odd-even effect is not yet clear.

The mitochondrial protein TCAIM regulates activation of T cells and thereby promotes tolerance induction of allogeneic transplants.

2013

Primary T cell activation and effector cell differentiation is required for rejection of allogeneic grafts in naive recipients. It has become evident, that mitochondria play an important role for T cell activation. Expression of several mitochondrial proteins such as TCAIM (T cell activation inhibitor, mitochondrial) is down-regulated upon T cell receptor triggering. Here we report that TCAIM inhibited spontaneous development of memory and effector T cells. CD4(+) T cells from Tcaim knock-in (KI) mice showed reduced activation, cytokine secretion and proliferation in vitro. Tcaim KI T cells tolerated allogeneic skin grafts upon transfer into Rag-1 KO mice. CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells from the…

Chromatin modifiers and recombination factors promote a telomere fold-back structure, that is lost during replicative senescence.

2020

Telomeres have the ability to adopt a lariat conformation and hence, engage in long and short distance intra-chromosome interactions. Budding yeast telomeres were proposed to fold back into subtelomeric regions, but a robust assay to quantitatively characterize this structure has been lacking. Therefore, it is not well understood how the interactions between telomeres and non-telomeric regions are established and regulated. We employ a telomere chromosome conformation capture (Telo-3C) approach to directly analyze telomere folding and its maintenance in S. cerevisiae. We identify the histone modifiers Sir2, Sin3 and Set2 as critical regulators for telomere folding, which suggests that a dis…

Relationship between XPS core binding energies and atomic charge in adducts of SnIV derivatives with pyrazine, and comparison with mössbauer isomer s…

1981

Abstract Adducts Snhal·pyz (hal = Cl, Br, I; pyz = pyrazine), RnSnCl 4−n ·pyz (n = 1, R = Me, Bu n , Oct n , Ph; n = 2, R = Ph) and SnCl 4 ·(pyz) 2 have been investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Binding energy (b.e.) values are discussed in the light of structural characteristics of the adducts as well as of valence state electronegativities of atoms and groups bound to tin. Sn 3d 5 2 b.e.s, corrected for the Madelung potential at the metal atom, linearly correlate with both partial atomic charges on tin, accounting for relaxation upon ionization, and 119 Sn Mossbauer isomer shifts. The results are interpreted in terms of six-coordinated, octahedral type, configurations of the …
