Accelerated telomere attrition in children and teenagers with α1-antitrypsin deficiency.

Numerous studies have shown that oxidative stress accelerates telomere shortening in several lung pathologies. Since oxidative stress is involved in the pathophysiology of α1-antitrypsin deficiency (AATD), we hypothesised that telomere shortening would be accelerated in AATD patients. Metabolic and inflammatory reprogramming of macrophages by ONC201 translates in a pro-inflammatory environment even in presence of glioblastoma cells

Tumor-associated macrophages facilitate tumor progression and resistance to therapy. Their capacity for metabolic and inflammatory reprogramming represents an attractive therapeutic target. ONC201/TIC10 is an anticancer molecule that antagonizes the dopamine receptor D2 and affects mitochondria integrity in tumor cells. We examined whether ONC201 induces a metabolic and pro-inflammatory switch in primary human monocyte-derived macrophages that reactivates their antitumor activities, thus enhancing the onco-toxicity of ONC201. Cytoplasmic localization of the cell polarity factor scribble supports liver tumor formation and tumor cell invasiveness

Human neutrophil elastase impacts on atherosclerotic plaque stability by inducing apoptosis in endothelial cells. Our aim was to investigate the proapoptotic mechanism of elastase on endothelial cells and to evaluate the presence of elastase in human plaque material. Sustained oscillations in the MAP kinase cascade.

Abstract The MAP kinase cascade is a network of enzymatic reactions arranged in layers. In each layer occurs a multiple futile cycle of phosphorylations. The fully phosphorylated substrate then serves as an enzyme for the layer below. This paper focuses on the existence of parameters for which Hopf bifurcations occur and generate periodic orbits. Furthermore it is explained how geometric singular perturbation theory allows to generalize results from simple models to more complex ones.

Training session intensity affects plasma redox status in amateur rhythmic gymnasts

Purpose: The aim of this study was to examine systemic responses of oxidant/antioxidant status following 2 training sessions of different intensity in amateur rhythmic gymnasts. Methods: Before the experimental training, 10 female gymnasts performed a gradually increased exercise test to assess maximal heart rate, maximal oxygen consumption, and anaerobic threshold.
