Abstract To investigate man's role in the creation and evolution of soils in areas of large scale farming, and to investigate the main morpho-descriptive aspects of the related soils, a survey was carried out in south eastern Sicily, Italy, where, as common to other regions of the Mediterranean basin, there are wide areas with anthropogenic soils due to large scale farming activity. Thuringothyris mahlendorffae n.gen. n.sp. is described on the basis of the skull roof, palate, stapes and much of the postcranial skeleton from the Upper Rotliegend (Tambach-Schichten) of the Thuringian Forest in eastern Germany. The new taxon shows both protorothyridid and some captorhinid features. The interrelationships of the »Protorothyrididae«, primitive Captorhinidae, and earliest Diapsida are reviewd. The tetrapod material is used to reassess the biostratigraphic position of the fossil-bearing horizon.

Abstract This microstratigraphic study of the Magdalenian sequence in the Cendres Cave (Teulada-Moraira, Alicante, Spain) shows the detailed evolutionary history of the deposit, revealing a wide variety of pedosedimentary (formation and diagenesis), biogenic and anthropic processes. The sequence begins with Cendres XII, culturally attributed to the Early and Middle Magdalenian, with high probability (95%) dating placing it between 19,270 and 16,530 cal BP with some chronological hiatus. The N Variscan margin of the Ruhr coal district (Western Germany): structural style of a buried thrust front?

The Ruhr coal district represents part of an external fold and thrust belt of the Variscan orogen in central Europe. Extensive mining exposed molasse-type, coal-bearing clastic sequences of Upper Carboniferous age, deformed by folding and thrusting. Thrusts range in scale from decameters to 40 kilometers along strike but displacements are below 2.5 km. They are distributed in various stratigraphic levels and no regional detachment horizon is exposed. Displacement is mainly towards NW (towards the foreland) but also towards SE. Prosjektleder Erik Höglund Prosjektet undersøkte hvilken betydning det å få sjøørret har for fritidsfiskere i form av fiskeglede og videre hva som er viktig for en god fiskeopplevelse. Bakgrunnen for dette er å få i stand et europeisk samarbeid og en søknad omkring sosio-økologiske problemstillinger i kystsonen, med fokus på fritidsfiske og turisme. I samarbeid med Aust-Agder Jeger- og Fiskeforening ble det utviklet mobil- og internettapplikasjoner som rapporteringsverktøy. The Oppel-Kundt Illusion and Its Relation to Horizontal-Vertical and Oblique Effects.

The Oppel–Kundt illusion consists in the overestimation of the length of filled versus empty extents. Two experiments explored its relation to the horizontal-vertical illusion, which consists in the overestimation of the length of vertical versus horizontal extents, and to the oblique effect, which consists in poorer discriminative sensitivity for obliquely as opposed to horizontally or vertically oriented stimuli. For Experiment 1, Kundt’s (1863) original stimulus was rotated in steps of 45° full circle around 360°.
