Da Düsseldorf a Lussemburgo e ritorno: “Towards Horizontal Effect For the Free Movement of Goods?”
2014
2008
This paper draws attention to building networking and partnership amongst the market players of tourism industry in Latvia. The authors define cooperation as a process, which manifests in all fields of business operations, e.g. it occurs when two or more parties (enterprises) have business objectives which are mutually dependent. There are many ways and forms of cooperation that are of choice for every entrepreneur – formal and informal, vertical and horizontal, centralised and decentralised and others; it is just needed to evaluate all the benefits and contributions when to choose to compete and when to cooperate. The Oppel-Kundt Illusion and Its Relation to Horizontal-Vertical and Oblique Effects.
2021
The Oppel–Kundt illusion consists in the overestimation of the length of filled versus empty extents. Two experiments explored its relation to the horizontal-vertical illusion, which consists in the overestimation of the length of vertical versus horizontal extents, and to the oblique effect, which consists in poorer discriminative sensitivity for obliquely as opposed to horizontally or vertically oriented stimuli. For Experiment 1, Kundt’s (1863) original stimulus was rotated in steps of 45° full circle around 360°. For Experiment 2, one part of the stimulus remained at a horizontal or vertical orientation, whereas the other part was tilted 45° or 90°. The Oppel–Kundt illusion was at its …
Superintendent Leadership in Hierarchy and Network
2015
School superintendents are coupled hierarchically with the top apex of municipality organization through their membership of leadership teams and through personal ties to the top municipal manager, which provides opportunities to take part in strategic decision-making processes beyond the educational sector. Superintendents are also vertically linked to their school leaders through strong and dense network ties. Along the horizontal axis superintendents are active network players with peers, for example through superintendent associations or more frequently mentioned through personal ties to superintendent colleagues. Superintendents are linked to school boards through strong formal ties. I…
Impedance and admittance characteristics of Bi2S3 nanowire arrays
2013
Current studies of the electrical impedance and admittance characteristics of the anodised aluminum oxide (AAO) nanoporous arrays and bismuth sulphide (Bi2S3) nanowire within AAO membranes are presented. The influence of potential and frequency scan rate effect produced on the real, imaginary and complex electrochemical impedance and double layer capacitance of the AAO nanopore and the Bi2S3 nanowire arrays were studied.
Measured and Calculated Oxidation Potentials of 1-X-12-Y-CB11Me10– Anions
2012
Cyclic voltammetry of 31 icosahedral carborane anions 1-X-12-Y-CB(11)Me(10)(-) at a Pt electrode in liquid SO(2) revealed a completely reversible one-electron oxidation even at low scan rates, except for the anions with Y = I, which are oxidized irreversibly up to a scan rate of 5.0 V/s, and the anion with X = COOH and Y = H, whose oxidation is irreversible at scan rates below 1.0 V/s. Relative reversible oxidation potentials agree well with RI-B3LYP/TZVPP,COSMO and significantly less well with RI-BP86/TZVPP,COSMO or RI-HF/TZVPP,COSMO calculated adiabatic electron detachment energies. Correlations with HOMO energies of the anions are nearly as good, even though the oxidized forms are subjec…
Oxygen-deficient Co3O4 submicron porous sphere films as highly active supsercapacitor electrodes
2021
Abstract Herein, we report Co3O4 films with different content of oxygen vacancies and shapes of particles for supercapacitor electrodes. Under the similar area ratio of OII peak in the XPS spectrum of oxygen elements, the specific capacitance of electrode films with hollow spongy-like particles (963 F/g under a scan rate of 5 mV/s) is 1.6 times higher than that of the electrodes with solid irregular particles (596 F/g), indicating the effect of particle shapes on electrochemical properties. The films composed of submicron porous spheres and containing highest content of oxygen vacancies exhibited the specific capacitances as high as 1700 F/g under the scan rate of 5 mV/s. By contrast, after…
A complex network analysis of inbound tourism in Sicily
2019
In this article, the complex dynamics of inbound tourism in Sicily is analyzed for the period 1998–2017. The horizontal visibility graph algorithm is used to transform the overnight stays' time series into a network whose topology is investigated by standard network analysis. Discontinuities in the domestic and international tourism demand were identified in order to detect signals of change and the timing of the directional change in tourism growth. The network degree distribution confirms the complex structure of the destination and reveals the random and thus more unpredictable nature of the international tourism demand in Sicily, compared with a more stable domestic segment. Some policy…
European administrative centre formation. Lessons from international bureaucracies
2011
The strengthening of administrative powers is comprehensively documented within national governments. This article asks to what extent centre formation also happens within international bureaucracies. Based on a large body of data (N=121) within three international bureaucracies, this study adds two new observations: First, administrative centre formation is primarily observed inside the European Commission and only marginally within other international bureaucracies – such as the OECD and WTO Secretariats. Moreover, within the Commission, centre formation is primarily observed at the administrative centre (the General Secretariat) and only marginally within bureaucratic sub-units. Concomit…
Structure and evolution of the leucine plasmids carried by the endosymbiont (Buchnera aphidicola) from aphids of the family Aphididae.
1998
In all examined species of the family Aphididae, the bacterial endosymbiont Buchnera aphidicola carries a plasmid encoding the genes leuABCD (involved in leucine biosynthesis) along with repA1, repA2 and ORF1. The gene organisation of the leucine plasmids was conserved, except in Buchnera isolated from Pterocomma populeum, where ORF1 was located in a different position. An inverted repeat (LIR1) located between repA2 and leuA is found in all of the Buchnera leucine plasmids examined. The predicted secondary structure of the LIR1 transcript conforms to a long hairpin loop, suggesting an involvement in transcription termination or messenger stability. Phylogenetic reconstruction based on repA…
