Multiple hormones controlling energy homeostasis regulate the expression of neuropeptide Y (NPY) and agouti-related peptide (AgRP) in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus. Nevertheless, inactivation of the genes encoding NPY and/or AgRP has no impact on food intake in mice. Here we demonstrate that induced selective ablation of AgRP-expressing neurons in adult mice results in acute reduction of feeding, demonstrating direct evidence for a critical role of these neurons in the regulation of energy homeostasis.

Parathyroid hormone-related protein (PTHrP) is critical for normal mammary development and is overexpressed by breast cancers. PTHrP is a peptide hormone that undergoes extensive post-translational processing, and PTHrP(38–94)-amide is one of the mature secretory forms of the peptide. In this study, we explored the effect of PTHrP(38–94)-amide in a panel of six breast cancer cell lines “in vitro” and in MDA-MB231 cells “in vivo” specifically examining cell viability, proliferation, invasiveness, and growth in nude mice. Our investigation showed that the concentration of SHBG decreased in healthy girls and boys at increased FIE concentrations. It was therefore the aim of the present study to examine the effects of anabolic steroid oxandrolone in SHBG and FTE concentrations in patients with Turner's syndrome. The normal dose to promote growth in patients wilh UTS is 0,1 mg/kg/BW. Our patients received a very low dose of 1,25 mg oxandrolone/doy. We analysed 21 sera of UTS patients. We have shown that treatment with desmopressin has a very effective hemodilution effect in healthy humans. These results led us to suggest the possible role of desmopressin to mask blood doping in sports. Based on our results, the World Anti-Doping Agency included the desmopressin in the 2011 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods. On this occasion, the aim of our study was to test the desmopressin-induced hemodilution after rHuEpo administration in humans. We previously identified a cold shock domain (CSD)-containing protein (PIPPin), expressed at high level in brain cells. PIPPin has the potential to undergo different post-translational modifications and might be a good candidate to regulate the synthesis of specific proteins in response to extracellular stimuli. Here we report the effects of thyroid hormone (T3) on PIPPin expression in developing rat brain. We found that a significant difference among euthyroid- and hypothyroid- newborn rats concerns sumoylation of nuclear PIPPin, that is abolished by hypothyroidism.
