AbstractAlthough bats are increasingly recognised as potential reservoir hosts of human zoonotic pathogens, bacteria in bats are still poorly studied. To investigate the DNA faecal prevalence of the bacterium Anaplasma phagocytophilum, we sampled 23 lesser horseshoe bat (Rhinolophus hipposideros) maternity colonies located in buildings (churches, barns) in rural villages of eastern France. A total of 552 faecal samples were collected from 278 individuals. Anaplasma phagocytophilum DNA was detected in the faeces of 63 individuals (22.7%). Structure of SNX9 SH3 in complex with a viral ligand reveals the molecular basis of its unique specificity for alanine-containing class I SH3 motifs

Class I SH3 domain-binding motifs generally comply with the consensus sequence [R/K]x0PxxP, the hydrophobic residue 0 being proline or leucine. We have studied the unusual 0 = Ala-specificity of SNX9 SH3 by determining its complex structure with a peptide present in eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) nsP3. The structure revealed the length and composition of the n-Src loop as important factors determining specificity. We also compared the affinities of EEEV nsP3 peptide, its mutants, and cellular ligands to SNX9 SH3. Herein, we reported a chemiluminescent biosensor based on the covalent immobilization of the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) enzyme on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) support to quantify in situ hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The chemiluminescent reaction based on the use of luminol as an oxidizable substrate, with HRP as the catalyst, has been used in order to quantify H2O2 as the oxidizing agent. The performance of the proposed biosensor has been demonstrated to determine H2O2 liberated by cells in a culture medium and for evaluating the delivery of H2O2 from denture cleaner tablets, as examples of application. Oxidation of dobutamine and dopamine by horseradish peroxidase

Dobutamine and dopamine have been previously shown to interfere with enzymatic diagnostic tests and different mechanisms responsible for this effect have been postulated. We have studied the oxidation by horseradish peroxidase (HRP) of dopamine, dobutamine, and its analog with the phenol group blocked by methylation. Oxidation of dobutamine was much faster than dopamine, as reported before, whereas the methylated analog of dobutamine was oxidized at intermediate rate. This demonstrates that the phenol group in dobutamine is oxidized preferentially by HRP and acts as an electron-transfer mediator in oxidation of the catechol group. Structural differences in the albumin molecule account for these stereospecific differences in serum protein-binding.

Viscoelastic evaluation of aggregation and agglutination of red blood cells was attempted. A concentric double cylinder viscoelastometer was used for determining the dynamic rigidity modulus and loss modulus of blood sample. The dynamic rigidity modulus of horse blood were measured over a wide range of hematocrit. The relation between the viscoelastic behavior and the erythrocyte sedimentation was examined.
