Associations between the Severity of Sarcopenia and Health-Related Quality of Life in Community-Dwelling Middle-Aged and Older Adults

2021

(1) Background: The aim of this study was to analyze the associations between severity of sarcopenia and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) among community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults. (2) Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 304 older-adult participants was used to assess the severity of sarcopenia by measuring muscle strength (handgrip dynamometer), muscle mass (bioelectrical impedance analysis), and physical performance (Timed Up-and-Go test). The generic 36-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) was used to evaluate HRQoL. Anxiety and depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale) as well as age were considered as possible confounders. Probable sarcopenia was dete…

Handgrip strength and health outcomes: Umbrella review of systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies

2020

Highlights • We carried out an umbrella review of systematic reviews with meta-analyses of observational studies on handgrip strength and all health outcomes. • Three outcomes (lower all-cause mortality, lower cardiovascular mortality, and lower risk of disability) were found to have highly suggestive evidence. • One outcome (chair rise performance over time) was found to have suggestive evidence. • Five outcomes (walking speed, inability to balance, hospital admissions, cardiac death, and mortality in those with chronic kidney disease) were found to have weak evidence.

Travailler ensemble sans être d’accord

2016

This paper’s aim is to complete the Social Regulation Theory of J.D. Reynaud who defined three types of regulation in organizations. We propose to add the « regulation disjointed » category which is characterized by the coexistence of two rules to operate the same activity. This research demonstrates empirically the interest of this new type of regulation, thanks observations of human resources management practices made in a French hospital.

The commercial activity of tourism companies. Perception of tourism students

2019

The new role of the corporate and functional strategies in the tourism sector: Spanish small and medium-sized hotels

2005

This article aims at establishing the presence or lack of possible relationships between the existence of a logical global strategy definition in Spanish small and medium-sized hotels and its links with functional or department strategies involving four areas – marketing, technology, human resources and finance. Results show that there is a relationship between enterprise size – using business turnover as a yardstick – and the proper definition of technology, human resources and finance functions. There is also a relationship between enterprise size, determined by the number of employees, and an adequate definition of corporate strategy and technology and human resources department function…

An integrated care pathway for cancer patients with diabetes: A proposal from the Italian experience

2020

Diabetes and cancer frequently coexist in the same subject, often with relevant clinical effects on the management and prognosis of the comorbid patient. The existing guidelines, however, do not appropriately address many clinical issues in this setting. Although collaboration between diabetologists and oncologists should play an important role in achieving appropriate levels of care, close coordination or agreement between these specialists is seldom offered. There is an urgent need for greater interdisciplinary integration between all specialists involved in this setting, for a shared approach ensuring that organisational silos are overcome. To this end, the Italian Associations of Medica…

Facilitators and Inhibitors of Technologies to Tackle Climate Change: Opinions of Government and Private Actors

2012

The purpose of this paper is to analyse the facilitators and inhibitors of investing in environmentally friendly technologies from the Spanish hotel perspective as well as to describe the governance initiatives pertaining to this issue. A description of the actions implemented by different Spanish governance institutions is given. Tourism and migration: Identifying the channels with gravity models

2020

As a result of the role played by migrants in supporting host economies, the interest in understanding the impact of migration is growing. However, the literature remains silent on the channels by which migration affects tourism. The present article aims to isolate the effect of migrant networks on tourism by exploring the role of information, travel costs, and demand for visiting friends and relatives. To this end, a theoretical framework that rests upon a structural gravity model is developed. The model allows not only a better understanding of the relationship between tourism and migration but also to overcome several empirical biases like the omission of multilateral resistance in tour…

Exploring travelers’ willingness to pay for green hotels in the digital era

2021

The past few years have witnessed an intensifying effort by hotels to respond to customers’ growing environmental sensitivities. A critical aspect of this market trend is the actual willingness of tourists to pay (WTP) for green products and services offered by green hotels. Previous studies in this research field have mainly focused on the relationship between guests’ attitudes and their behavioral intentions, neglecting the influence of external and situational factors. In light of this, the present paper contributes to knowledge by analyzing the influence of e-Word-of-Mouth (e-WOM) and physical image, as it emerges from digital platforms, and the effect of green hotel attributes on the t…
