The Rijfs were Finland- Swedes and entailed four mason-based master builders: Thomas Rijf (1726-1803), his sons Jacob (1753-1808) and Carl (1756-1801), and Jacob´s son Carl Jacobsson Rijf (1783-1808). The most famous member of the family was Jacob Rijf. He was the first Finnish master builder to study at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts and was supervised by the leading architects of the Board of Public Works and Buildings, Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz (1716-1796) and Olof Tempelman (1745-1816). « A Different Symons »

2015

The critical reception of critic, journalist and short-novelist A. Symons raises the question of increased specialisation incapable to acknowledge the diversity of his interests. Seen as a transitional writer between Aestheticism and early Modernism, credited with introducing French Symbolism in Britain, he is usually considered as a writer whose nervous breakdown in 1908 put an end to a promising maturity. This paper suggests that we shift the focus and the corresponding vision of Symons by assessing his reception in French-speaking countries, including his academic reception, from 1890 to 2015. Recognized by the French and the Belgians as a British poet quite early in the 1900s Symons’s f…

Limits of Power. Clerical Appointment as Part of Domestic Policy in Sweden after the Reformation, 1560–1611

2015

Abstract This article examines state-church relations in Sweden by analysing clerical appointment processes in the latter part of the 16th century. The aim is to ascertain whether the king of Sweden could appoint pastors independently, and if not, with whom he was compelled to share the power. Earlier studies argue that the power of the king grew due to the reformation. First, this article examines the number of clerical appointments that were made in the period 1560-1611. The results reveal a remarkable annual variation in the number of clerical appointments. Second, the timing and share of clerical appointments made by the king are studied. The number of appointments made by the king is v…

Dlaczego teologa interesują inne nauki?

2021

This paper is an attempt to indicate the reasons why a theologian should be interested in other sciences. The openness of the Church towards science is a relevant issue for Christian faith. Its justification today is in a climate of scientific thinking, in which scientific tools of recognising of the world, as well as the scientific picture of the world play an important role. This article will demonstrate the following: 1) the ecclesial reason; 2) the educational reason; (3) the anthropological reason; (4) the ecological reason;(5) the scientifical reason; (6) the kerygmatic-pastoral reason.

Ladoix-Serrigny (Côte-d’Or). Chapelle Notre-Dame du Chemin [notice archéologique]

2019
