Preformulation: Effect of Moisture Content on Microcrystalline Cellulose (Avicel PH-302) and Its Consequences on Packing Performances
1999
This study evaluates the influence of moisture content on the packing performances of a new grade of microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) (Avicel PH-302) either by classical method or by an unconventional compression technique (constant volume reduction of powder bed). An increase in moisture content decreases the apparent density of the powder bed, resulting from interparticulate friction enhancement. This modification of apparent density seems to be the main effect caused by the presence of humidity, which explains the variations of compression properties, like an increase of powder plasticity generally observed in the experimental conditions.
Effect of water contamination on the shear bond strength of five orthodontic adhesives
2010
Objectives: To evaluate the shear bond strength and site of failure of brackets bonded to dry and wet enamel. Study design: 50 teeth were divided into ten groups of 5 teeth each (10 surfaces). In half the groups enamel was kept dry before bonding, and in the other half distilled water was applied to wet the surface after etching. The following groups were established: 1)Acid/Transbond-XT (dry/wet) XT; 2) Transbond Plus Self Etching Primer (TSEP)/Transbond-XT paste (dry/wet); 3) Concise (dry), Transbond MIP/Concise (wet), 4) FujiOrtho-LC (dry/ wet); 5) SmartBond (dry/wet). Brackets were bonded to both buccal and lingual surfaces. Specimens were stored in distilled water (24 hours at 37ºC) an…

NanosizedCeO2powders were synthesized via hydrothermal method with different types of surfactants (polyethylene glycol (PEG), cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), and sodium dodecylbenzenesulfonate (SDBS)). X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and transmission electron microscopy were utilized to characterize the phase structures and morphologies of the products. The sample with CTAB as surfactant (CeO2-C) has the largest specific surface area and the smallest particle size among these three samples. The humidity sensor fabricated byCeO2-C shows higher performance than those usedCeO2-P andCeO2-S. The impedance of theCeO2-C sensor decreases by about five orders of magnitude with relative…

From the solution processing of hydrophilic molecules to polymer-phthalocyanine hybrid materials for ammonia sensing in high humidity atmospheres.
2014
We have prepared different hybrid polymer-phthalocyanine materials by solution processing, starting from two sulfonated phthalocyanines, s-CoPc and CuTsPc, and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), polyethylene glycol (PEG), poly(acrylic acid-co-acrylamide) (PAA-AM), poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) and polyaniline (PANI) as polymers. We also studied the response to ammonia (NH3) of resistors prepared from these sensing materials. The solvent casted films, prepared from s-CoPc and PVP, PEG and PAA-AM, were highly insulating and very sensitive to the relative humidity (RH) variation. The incorporation of s-CoPc in PDDA by means of layer-by-layer (LBL) technique allowed to stabilize the fi…
A methodology to assess the effect of sweat on infrared thermography data after running: Preliminary study
2020
Abstract The aim of this technical report is to present a preliminary study carried out to define the methodology to be employed for further research on assessing the effect of sweating on infrared thermography and thermal contact sensors after moderate intensity running. Nine recreational runners participated in this preliminary study. Participants ran for 35 min (5 min warm-up and 30 min at a rate of perceived exertion rate of 12 points on the 6–20 points Borg scale). Skin temperature (infrared thermography, Flir E60bx; four thermal contact sensors, IButton DS1923 Hygrochron) and relative humidity (thermal contact sensors) were measured on the anterior thigh on both lower limbs before and…
Improved stability of black silicon detectors using aluminum oxide surface passivation
2021
Publisher Copyright: © 2021 ESA and CNES We have studied how high-energy electron irradiation (12 MeV, total dose 66 krad(Si)) and long term humidity exposure (75%, 75 °C, 500 hours) influence the induced junction black silicon or planar photodiode characteristics. In our case, the induced junction is formed using n-type silicon and atomic-layer deposited aluminum oxide (Al2O3), which contains a large negative fixed charge. We compare the results with corresponding planar pn-junction detectors passivated with either with silicon dioxide (SiO2) or Al2O3. The results show that the induced junction detectors remain stable as their responsivity remains nearly unaffected during the electron beam…
Effect of Moisture Content on the Processing and Mechanical Properties of a Biodegradable Polyester
2021
This work is focused on the influence of moisture content on the processing and mechanical properties of a biodegradable polyester used for applications in injection molding. The pellets of the biodegradable polyester were exposed under different relative humidity conditions at a constant temperature before being compression molded. The compression-molded specimens were again placed under the above conditions before the mechanical testing. With all these samples, it is possible to determine the effect of moisture content on the processing and mechanical properties separately, as well as the combined effect of moisture content on the mechanical properties. The results obtained showed that th…

Low Conductive Electrodeposited Poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) as a Key Material in a Double Lateral Heterojunction, for Sub-ppm Ammonia Sensing in Humid…
2019
We present a new device called a double lateral heterojunction (DLH) as an ammonia sensor in humid atmosphere. It combines polyaniline derivatives in their poor conducting state with a highly conductive molecular material, lutetium bisphthalocyanine, LuPc2. Polyaniline and poly(2,5-dimethoxyaniline) are electrodeposited on ITO interdigitated electrodes, leading to an original device that can be obtained only by electrochemistry and not by other solution processing techniques. Both polymers lead to highly conducting materials that require a neutralization step before their coverage by LuPc2. While the device based on polyaniline shows ohmic behavior, the nonlinear I- V characteristics of the…
