Carl Florian Toldt was an Austrian anatomist who made meaningful contributions worldwide and defined what is one of the most important surgical landmarks in abdominal surgery. Through his research studies, the embryologic dissection plane known as the “White Line of Toldt” represents an important anatomical landmark that helps to mobilize either the ascending or descending colon. His career spanned over 45 years, beginning in Verona and continuing to Prague and Vienna. This has undoubtedly created a challenging environment for interest groups; groups which are a touchstone for the quality of democratic processes. Teaching of Finnish at the University of Debrecen has, at least so far, suc-cessfully taken part in the Bologna Process. In the new curriculum, Finnish studies is a 50 ECTS module in Bachelor’s degree and has an own MA programme. In language teaching, above all, communicative skills are aimed at. Student theses are written mainly in the field of linguistics. In the surrounding society, Finnish language and culture are frequently presented and valued highly.
