Cytosolic calcium rises and related events in ergosterol-treated Nicotiana cells

International audience; The typical fungal membrane component ergosterol was previously shown to trigger defence responses and protect plants against pathogens. Most of the elicitors mobilize the second messenger calcium, to trigger plant defences. We checked the involvement of calcium in response to ergosterol using Nicotiana plumbaginifolia and Nicotiana tabacum cv Xanthi cells expressing apoaequorin in the cytosol. Thiabendazole (TBZ) is a persistent fungicide used in the post-harvest treatment of fruits. Its application results in the production of contaminated effluents which should be treated before their environmental discharge. In the absence of efficient treatment methods in place, biological systems based on microbial inocula with specialized degrading capacities against TBZ could be a feasible treatment approach. In higher plants, the lipolytic enzymes and their physiological functions are not well characterized [1]. Most reports demonstrated that phospholipid catabolism in plants is achieved by the concerted actions of membrane-bound enzymes including phospholipase D, phosphatidate phosphatase, lipolytic acyl hydrolases and lipoxygenases [1,2]. With the exception of the phospholipase D, the literature on plant phospholipases is still very limited. Microbiota and metabolome during controlled and spontaneous fermentation of Nocellara Etnea table olives

This study is aimed to investigate bacterial community and its dynamics during the fermentation of Nocellara Etnea table olives and to study its effect on metabolome formation. Six different combination of bacterial cultures (BC1-BC6) were used as starters for table olive fermentation and one additional process, conducted without addition of any starters, was used as control (C). Microbiota is a crucial player in gynecologic health, in which bacteria can shift to a dysbiotic state triggering a pathogenic process.
