Spherical symmetric parabolic dust collapse: ${\cal C}^{1}$ matching metric with zero intrinsic energy

2016

The collapse of marginally bound, inhomogeneous, pressureless (dust) matter, in spherical symmetry, is considered. The starting point is not, in this case, the integration of the Einstein equations from some suitable initial conditions. Instead, starting from the corresponding general exact solution of these equations, depending on two arbitrary functions of the radial coordinate, the fulfillment of the Lichnerowicz matching conditions of the interior collapsing metric and the exterior Schwarzschild one is tentatively assumed (the continuity of the metric and its first derivatives on the time-like hypersurface describing the evolution of the spherical 2-surface boundary of the collapsing cl…

Junction conditions in Palatinif(R) gravity

2020

We work out the junction conditions for $f(R)$ gravity formulated in metric-affine (Palatini) spaces using a tensor distributional approach. These conditions are needed for building consistent models of gravitating bodies with an interior and exterior regions matched at some hypersurface. Some of these conditions depart from the standard Darmois-Israel ones of General Relativity and from their metric $f(R)$ counterparts. In particular, we find that the trace of the stress-energy momentum tensor in the bulk must be continuous across the matching hypersurface, though its normal derivative need not to. We illustrate the relevance of these conditions by considering the properties of stellar sur…

Phase space coordinates and the Hamiltonian constraint of Regge calculus.

1994

We suggest that the phase space of Regge calculus is spanned by the areas and the deficit angles corresponding to the two-simplexes on the spacelike hypersurface of simplicial spacetime. Our proposal is based on a slight modification of the Ashtekar formulation of canonical gravity. In terms of these phase space coordinates we write an equation which we suggest to be a simplicial version of the Hamiltonian constraint of canonical gravity.

Matching stages of heavy-ion collision models

2010

Heavy-ion reactions and other collective dynamical processes are frequently described by different theoretical approaches for the different stages of the process, like initial equilibration stage, intermediate locally equilibrated fluid dynamical stage, and final freeze-out stage. For the last stage, the best known is the Cooper-Frye description used to generate the phase space distribution of emitted, noninteracting particles from a fluid dynamical expansion or explosion, assuming a final ideal gas distribution, or (less frequently) an out-of-equilibrium distribution. In this work we do not want to replace the Cooper-Frye description, but rather clarify the ways of using it and how to choo…

The unequal mass sunrise integral expressed through iterated integrals on M‾1,3

2020

Abstract We solve the two-loop sunrise integral with unequal masses systematically to all orders in the dimensional regularisation parameter e. In order to do so, we transform the system of differential equations for the master integrals to an e-form. The sunrise integral with unequal masses depends on three kinematical variables. We perform a change of variables to standard coordinates on the moduli space M 1 , 3 of a genus one Riemann surface with three marked points. This gives us the solution as iterated integrals on M ‾ 1 , 3 . On the hypersurface τ = const our result reduces to elliptic polylogarithms. In the equal mass case our result reduces to iterated integrals of modular forms.

$V$-filtrations in positive characteristic and test modules

2013

Let $R$ be a ring essentially of finite type over an $F$-finite field. Given an ideal $\mathfrak{a}$ and a principal Cartier module $M$ we introduce the notion of a $V$-filtration of $M$ along $\mathfrak{a}$. If $M$ is $F$-regular then this coincides with the test module filtration. We also show that the associated graded induces a functor $Gr^{[0,1]}$ from Cartier crystals to Cartier crystals supported on $V(\mathfrak{a})$. This functor commutes with finite pushforwards for principal ideals and with pullbacks along essentially \'etale morphisms. We also derive corresponding transformation rules for test modules generalizing previous results by Schwede and Tucker in the \'etale case (cf. ar…

Abstract This paper is related to the problem of finding a good notion of rectifiability in sub-Riemannian geometry. In particular, we study which kind of results can be expected for smooth hypersurfaces in Carnot groups. Our main contribution will be a consequence of the following result: there exists a C ∞ -hypersurface S without characteristic points that has uncountably many pairwise non-isomorphic tangent groups on every positive-measure subset. The example is found in a Carnot group of topological dimension 8, it has Hausdorff dimension 12 and so we use on it the Hausdorff measure H 12 . As a consequence, we show that any Lipschitz map defined on a subset of a Carnot group of Hausdorf…

Hadamard-type theorems for hypersurfaces in hyperbolic spaces

2006

Abstract We prove that a bounded, complete hypersurface in hyperbolic space with normal curvatures greater than −1 is diffeomorphic to a sphere. The completeness condition is relaxed when the normal curvatures are bounded away from −1. The diffeomorphism is constructed via the Gauss map of some parallel hypersurface. We also give bounds for the total curvature of this parallel hypersurface.

Expecting the unexpected: Quantifying the persistence of unexpected hypersurfaces

2021

If $X \subset \mathbb P^n$ is a reduced subscheme, we say that $X$ admits an unexpected hypersurface of degree $t$ for multiplicity $m$ if the imposition of having multiplicity $m$ at a general point $P$ fails to impose the expected number of conditions on the linear system of hypersurfaces of degree $t$ containing $X$. Conditions which either guarantee the occurrence of unexpected hypersurfaces, or which ensure that they cannot occur, are not well understand. We introduce new methods for studying unexpectedness, such as the use of generic initial ideals and partial elimination ideals to clarify when it can and when it cannot occur. We also exhibit algebraic and geometric properties of $X$ …

Pappus type theorems for hypersurfaces in a space form

2002

In order to get further insight on the Weyl’s formula for the volume of a tubular hypersurface, we consider the following situation. Letc(t) be a curve in a space formM λ n of sectional curvature λ. LetP 0 be a totally geodesic hypersurface ofM λ n throughc(0) and orthogonal toc(t). LetC 0 be a hypersurface ofP 0. LetC be the hypersurface ofM λ n obtained by a motion ofC 0 alongc(t). We shall denote it byC PorC Fif it is obtained by a parallel or Frenet motion, respectively. We get a formula for volume(C). Among other consequences of this formula we get that, ifc(0) is the centre of mass ofC 0, then volume(C) ≥ volume(C),P),and the equality holds whenC 0 is contained in a geodesic sphere or…
