Strain-controlled domain wall injection into nanowires for sensor applications

2021

We investigate experimentally the effects of externally applied strain on the injection of 180$^\circ$ domain walls (DW) from a nucleation pad into magnetic nanowires, as typically used for DW-based sensors. In our study the strain, generated by substrate bending, induces in the material a uniaxial anisotropy due to magnetoelastic coupling. To compare the strain effects, $Co_{40}Fe_{40}B_{20}$, $Ni$ and $Ni_{82}Fe_{18}$ samples with in-plane magnetization and different magnetoelastic coupling are deposited. In these samples, we measure the magnetic field required for the injection of a DW, by imaging differential contrast in a magneto-optical Kerr microscope. We find that strain increases t…

Characterization and magnetic properties of nanoparticles based on FePt solid solution with an oxide shell

2015

Abstract We present the results of magnetic properties investigations of ferromagnetic nanoparticles which ensembled with ferromagnetic shell. The aim of this work is to study the connection of structure–phase composition and thermal treatment with the magnetic properties, partially, with the coercive force and the exchange bias field in a two-dimension spin system of core–shell type. It is found that the exchange bias field increases with the growth of the oxide shell thickness. This is realized by annealing in a dosed oxygen flow. The decrease of the coercive force with the increase of annealing temperature is connected with the concentration effect (the concentration of ferromagnetic par…

Hysteresis in graphene nanoribbon field-effect devices

2020

Hysteresis in the current response to a varying gate voltage is a common spurious effect in carbon-based field effect transistors. Here, we use electric transport measurements to probe the charge transport in networks of armchair graphene nanoribbons with a width of either 5 or 9 carbon atoms, synthesized in a bottom-up approach using chemical vapor deposition. Our systematic study on the hysteresis of such graphene nanoribbon transistors, in conjunction with temperature-dependent transport measurements shows that the hysteresis can be fully accounted for by trapping/detrapping carriers in the SiO2 layer. We extract the trap densities and depth, allowing us to identify shallow traps as the …

Charge-carrier density collapse in and epitaxial thin films

2000

We measured the temperature dependence of the linear high field pH of La0.67Ca0.33MnO3 Tc = 232K) and La0.67Sr0.33MnO3 Tc = 345K) thin films in the temperature range from 4 K up to 360 K in magnetic fields up to 20 T. At low temperatures we find a charge-carrier density of 1.3 and 1.4 holes per unit cell for the Ca- and Sr-doped compound, respectively. In this temperature range electron-magnon scattering contributes to the longitudinal resistivity. At the ferromagnetic transition temperature Tc a dramatic drop in the number of charge-carriers n down to 0.6 holes per unit cell, accompanied by an increase in unit cell volume, is observed. Corrections of the Hall data due to a non saturated ma…

Field Induced Evolution of Nanoscale Structures in Relaxor PLZT Ceramics

2005

Abstract The kinetics of the nanoscale structures under application of bipolar and unipolar ac field was investigated by recording of the switching charge in wide temperature and field range in hot-pressed relaxor PLZT ceramics. Original analysis of the switching charge data was based on the consideration of the field induced transformation as an evolution of the nanoscale domain structure with nanoscale nonpolar inclusions. We have shown that the inhomogeneous depolarization field produced by the bound charges existing at the interphase boundaries play the key role in spontaneous backswitching effects.

Charge Transport Layers Limiting the Efficiency of Perovskite Solar Cells: How To Optimize Conductivity, Doping, and Thickness

2019

Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) are one of the main research topics of the photovoltaic community; with efficiencies now reaching up to 24%, PSCs are on the way to catching up with classical inorganic solar cells. However, PSCs have not yet reached their full potential. In fact, their efficiency is still limited by nonradiative recombination, mainly via trap-states and by losses due to the poor transport properties of the commonly used transport layers (TLs). Indeed, state-of-the-art TLs (especially if organic) suffer from rather low mobilities, typically within 10(-5) and 10(-2) cm(-2) V-1 s(-1), when compared to the high mobilities, 1-10 cm(-2) V-1 s(-1), measured for perovskites. This work…

Vacuum deposited perovskite solar cells employing dopant-free triazatruxene as the hole transport material

2017

Abstract Planar perovskite solar cells using organic charge selective contacts were fabricated. In a vacuum deposited perovskite-based solar cell, dopant and additive free triazatruxene as the hole transport layer was introduced for device fabrication. High open-circuit voltage of 1090 mV was obtained using methylammonium lead iodide (Eg=1.55 eV) as light harvesting material, thus representing a loss of only 460 mV which is in close vicinity of mature silicon technology (400 mV). The devices showed a very competitive photovoltaic performance, monochromatic incident photon-to-electron conversion efficiency of 80% and the power conversion efficiencies in excess of 15% were measured with a neg…

Fluxon dynamics in Li–Al codoped by microwave surface resistance measurements

2010

Abstract The magnetic-field-induced variations of the microwave surface resistance, R s , have been investigated in ceramic Mg1−x(LiAl)xB2, with x in the range 0.1 – 0.4 . The measurements have been performed on increasing and decreasing the DC magnetic field, H 0 , at fixed temperatures. At low temperatures, we have observed a magnetic hysteresis in the R s ( H 0 ) curves in all the investigated samples. On increasing the temperature, the range of H 0 in which the hysteretic behavior is visible shrinks; however, in the sample with x = 0.1 it is present up to temperatures close to T c . We show that the field dependence of R s can be quantitatively justified taking into account the critical…

Hysteresis in nitrogen sorption and mercury porosimetry on mesoporous model adsorbents made of aggregated monodisperse silica spheres

1989

Abstract An elucidation of the hysteresis phenomena in nitrogen sorption (NS) and mercury porosimetry (MP) on porous aggregates of non-porous silica spheres of particle diameter 90–1000 nm is presented. First, it is demonstrated that highly ordered and dense aggregates of a porosity of 26–30% are formed by gravity settling and centrifugation. A hexagonal and cubic close-packed structure within the layers and a vertical stacking between the layers were observed. Minor deteriorations were seen between the ordered domains. Second, the pore size distribution (PSD) curves calculated from the adsorption branch of the nitrogen isotherms by means of the Cohan equation and from the desorption branch…

Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Graphene Films with Ni Nanoparticles

2015

Electrical properties and magnetic properties of graphene oxide and reduced graphene oxide films with addition of Ni nanoparticles were investigated. It is found that reduction of GO by Hydrazine hydrate (HH) and subsequent mixing with Ni NPs yields a higher current (10(-5)A) compared to the samples where GO is first mixed with Ni NPs and further reduced (10(-6)A). At the same time, GO sample prepared by addition of Ni NPs to GO with subsequent reduction by HH presents the largest hysteresis with Mr as high as 11.8emu/g. Moreover, mixing of Ni NPs with HH before addition to GO or addition of Ni NPs to already reduced GO yields smaller values of the magnetization. Thus, the optimal procedure…
