Responses of European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and lobster fishers to protective management
2017
Master's thesis Aquatic Ecology BIO500 - University of Agder 2017 Marine protected areas (MPAs) are valued for their conservation benefits to harvested species. However, potential benefits of MPAs to neighboring fisheries are less well-understood. This study quantifies how the European lobster (Homarus gammarus) and the fishery for this valued catch respond to the establishment of a relatively small (5.2 km2) MPA on the Norwegian Skagerrak coast. A series of yearly standardized trap surveys was conducted to estimate lobster abundance and catch weights both inside and outside the MPA before (2010- 2011) and after the MPA was established (2012-2016). Lobster abundance and catch weights were d…
Organizational culture as a primary driver for utilizing big data analytics in organizations
2019
Master's thesis Information Systems IS501 - University of Agder 2019 Context:During this last decade we have witnessed a wave of digital disruption, where big data has had a central part. This has gotten many organizations to pay attention and investing in analytic tools for big data. Big data analytics can provide organizations with more knowledge from more data sources that can have a big impact on how organizations act. Many of the organizations that have purchased big data analytics have failed to derive benefits from it and this is demonstratedin the literature. Organizational culture is mentioned as being an important part of achieving success when adopting big data.Purpose: The purpo…
Synthesis, Anti-Inflammatory Activity, and in Vitro Antitumor Effect of a Novel Class of Cyclooxygenase Inhibitors: 4-(Aryloyl)phenyl Methyl Sulfones
2010
Following our previous research on anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), we report on the design and synthesis of 4-(aryloyl)phenyl methyl sulfones. These substances were characterized for their capacity to inhibit cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) isoenzymes. Molecular modeling studies showed that the methylsulfone group of these compounds was inserted deep in the pocket of the human COX-2 binding site, in an orientation that precludes hydrogen bonding with Arg120, Ser353, and Tyr355 through their oxygen atoms. The N-arylindole 33 was the most potent inhibitor of COX-2 and also the most selective (COX-1/COX-2 IC(50) ratio was 262). The indole derivative 33 was further tested in vivo for its ant…
Identification of Plakortide E from the Caribbean Sponge Plakortis halichondroides as a Trypanocidal Protease Inhibitor using Bioactivity-Guided Frac…
2014
In this paper, we report new protease inhibitory activity of plakortide E towards cathepsins and cathepsin-like parasitic proteases. We further report on its anti-parasitic activity against Trypanosoma brucei with an IC50 value of 5 mu M and without cytotoxic effects against J774.1 macrophages at 100 mu M concentration. Plakortide E was isolated from the sponge Plakortis halichondroides using enzyme assay-guided fractionation and identified by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Furthermore, enzyme kinetic studies confirmed plakortide E as a non-competitive, slowly-binding, reversible inhibitor of rhodesain.
Bruk av maskinlæring og datautvinning i primærhelsetjenesten
2019
2021
Master's thesis in Coastal ecology (BIO501) Both Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) and Brown trout (Salmo trutta) spawn in freshwaters, and availability to water courses of good water quality is of great importance for the Salmonidae populations. The industrial revolution introduced release of considerable amounts of sulphur and nitrogen taken up by the environments, including aquatic habitats. Through the 20thcentury, the pH levels dramatically dropped while levels of toxic aluminium rose in the freshwaters. The acidic and toxic waters strongly affected the salmon populations, and several of the stocks of south Norwegian rivers were eliminated. The trout, however, have managed the decrease in …
A short proof of the infinitesimal Hilbertianity of the weighted Euclidean space
2020
We provide a quick proof of the following known result: the Sobolev space associated with the Euclidean space, endowed with the Euclidean distance and an arbitrary Radon measure, is Hilbert. Our new approach relies upon the properties of the Alberti-Marchese decomposability bundle. As a consequence of our arguments, we also prove that if the Sobolev norm is closable on compactly-supported smooth functions, then the reference measure is absolutely continuous with respect to the Lebesgue measure.
Improving handovers between a public service chatbot and chat employees: an affordances perspective : A case study in Norwegian Labour and Welfare Ad…
2021
Master's thesis in Information systems (IS501) Usage of chatbots in organisations has progressively increased over the last years. Chatbots are being used by companies in a variety of ways, such as automatic handling of customer inquiries, automation of mundane tasks internally, smart personal assistance, and as a medium between service providers and users. […] This thesis focuses on this handover, specifically between a public service chatbot and chat employees. Specifically, the interaction between the chatbot Frida used by the Norwegian Labour and Welfare Administration (NAV) and the chat employees at NAV contact centre (NKS).
Does one size fit all? The impact of cognitive skills on economic growth
2016
Les Documents de Travail de l'IREDU, n°2016-1; This paper tests for heterogeneous effects of cognitive skills on economic growth across countries. Using a new extended dataset on cognitive skills and controlling for potential endogeneity, we find that the magnitude of the effect is about 60 per cent higher for low-income countries compared to high-income countries, and it more than doubles when low TFP countries are compared to high TFP countries. There are also marked differences across geographic regions. Using data on the share of the population with advanced and minimum skill levels, our results also indicate that high-income countries should focus on increasing the number of high skill…
Business process management and success factors – Which success factors are the basis for a successful implementation phase of a BPM project : A qual…
2020
Master's thesis in Information systems (IS501) The followingmaster thesis looks into the topic of business process management and the success factors present in the implementation phase. From prior research, it was discovered that there is a research gap in prior conducted research aboutsuccess factors within different phases of a BPM project. The purpose of this thesis is to add to this perceived research gap by discovering the success factorsin the implementation phase of a BPM project undertaken at the University of Agder. A literature review was first conductedto identify already existing success factors, resulting in 127 factors found. A pre-existing framework of critical success factors…
