Lo studio usa strumenti della semiotica strutturale e interpretativa per proporre un close reading del Giorno della civetta. L’analisi così condotta mette in evidenza come il testo s’impegni a ristrutturare la competenza interpretativa del let-tore e, con essa, alcuni valori alla base della sua coscienza civile, con particolareriferimento alla verità e la giustizia. Nel secondo Novecento la minaccia nucleare angoscia l’intera umanità riaccendendo il dibattito sulla libertà della scienza e sull’intricato rapporto che questa intrattiene con il potere. Sciascia e Levi offrono nei loro scritti visioni della scienza assai diverse, talora opposte: Sciascia rivendica la superiorità della cultura umanistica (e letteraria) rispetto alla cultura scientifica, confermando la frattura denunciata da C. P. Snow che il chimico Levi considerava, invece, innaturale. Nonostante la differenza di prospettive, emerge tuttavia per entrambi la necessità che il discorso intorno alla scienza sia affrontato mediante il paradigma dell’etica.

Intento dell’articolo è quello di indagare l’intreccio di letteratura e arte nell’opera di Leonardo Sciascia, e in particolar modo nella sua produzione lirica, attestata dalla silloge del ’52 “La Sicilia, il suo cuore” e da alcuni versi inediti e dispersi. Comparative genomics of yeast species: new insights into their biology

The genomes of two hemiascomycetous yeasts (Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Candida albicans) and one archiascomycete (Schizosaccharomyces pombe) have been completely sequenced and the genes have been annotated. In addition, the genomes of 13 more Hemiascomycetes have been partially sequenced. The amount of data thus obtained provides information on the evolutionary relationships between yeast species.
