Additions to the Indian oribatid mite fauna, with description of a new species of the genus Niphocepheus (Acari, Oribatida)
2014
An annotated checklist of oribatid mite taxa from three sites of India is presented. It includes 71 species/ subspecies, 55 genera and 35 families. Twenty nine species/subspecies are recorded for the first time in India; five species/subspecies—Trhypochthonius tectorum stercus, Hermanniella aliverdievae, Sphodrocepheus tridactylus, Caenosamerus spatiosus, Dolicheremaeu distinctus—are recorded for the first time in the Oriental region. Niphocepheus neotrichus sp. nov. (Niphocepheidae) is described; it differs from other known species of Niphocepheus by the presence of epimeral neotrichy and three pairs of anal setae.
Two new species of oribatid mites of the genera Pergalumna and Carinogalumna (Acari, Oribatid…
2014
Two new species of oribatid mites of the family Galumnidae, Pergalumna minituberculata sp. nov. and Carinogalumna alineata sp. nov., are described from soil of secondary mixed broadleaved forest with bamboo in eastern Nepal. The genus Carinogalumna is recorded for the first time in the Oriental region. Pergalumna minituberculata sp. nov. is similar morphologically to Pergalumna longisetosa Balogh, 1960 and Pergalumna paralongisetosa Ermilov & Kaluz, 2012, however, it differs from both by the body size, length of bothridial and adanal setae, absence of porose areas Ad, and the presence of notogastral setae c, medial pore, postanal porose area, striate genital plates and striate bands in anog…
Moving towards inclusion: how Zanzibar succeeds in transforming its education system?

Mother and offspring fitness in an insect with maternal care: phenotypic trade-offs between egg number, egg mass and egg care
2014
Background Oviparous females have three main options to increase their reproductive success: investing into egg number, egg mass and/or egg care. Although allocating resources to either of these three components is known to shape offspring number and size, potential trade-offs among them may have key impacts on maternal and offspring fitness. Here, we tested the occurrence of phenotypic trade-offs between egg number, egg mass and maternal expenditure on egg care in the European earwig, Forficula auricularia, an insect with pre- and post-hatching forms of maternal care. In particular, we used a series of laboratory observations and experiments to investigate whether these three components no…

Residual antibacterial activity of a new modified sodium hypochlorite-based endodontic irrigation solution
2010
Objective: In this in vitro study the antibacterial substantivity of a new sodium hypochlorite-based root canal irrigant (Hypoclean) in bovine root dentin was investigated. Study Design: Ninety dentin tubes prepared from bovine incisor teeth were used. After contamination for 14 days with Enterococcus faecalis, the specimens were divided into five groups as follows: Hypoclean; Tetraclean; 5.25% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl); infected dentin tubes (positive control); and sterile dentin tubes (negative control). Dentin chips were collected with round burs into tryptic soy broth and after culturing, the number of colony-forming units (CFU) was counted. Results: The number of CFU was minimum in t…
La estiba y desestiba portuaria. Un estudio desde el Derecho Administrativo.
2015
Caffeate and piperidine-3-ol derivatives from the stem bark of Cassia sieberiana
2019
A new caffeate derivative from the ethanol extract of the stem bark of Cassia sieberiana DC. is described herein along with the known secondary metabolites spectaline (2), iso-6-cassine (3), 3-O-methyl-chiro-inositol (4), monobehenin (5), octyl nonadecyloate (6), β-sitosterol (7), stigmasterol (8) and sitosterol 3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (9). The chemical structures were elucidated by means of various spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques. Extract and isolated compounds were devoid of inhibitory action against the herein selected bacterial strains (MICs > 256 μg/mL) but showed capacities to reduce 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical (EC50 < 3 μg/mL) considerably better than the …
