Institutional Contexts, the Management of Patent Portfolios, and the Role of Public Policies Supporting New EntrepreneurialVentures
2009
This chapter aims to increase our understanding of the relationships between firm strategies, the design of institutional contexts on behalf of public agents, and the stimulation of diffused entrepreneurship within the economic system. In particular, it analyzes the way in which firm patent portfolio management strategies may systematically hinder the emergence of entrepreneurial endeavors within the economic system and, on this basis, critically discusses how the acknowledgement of these interactions should influence the design of public policies at the economic system level. We argue that in economic contexts where intellectual property rights (IPR) are influential, large firms may intent…
Meta-analysis of real-time fMRI neurofeedback studies using individual participant data: How is brain regulation mediated?
2015
An increasing number of studies using real-time fMRI neurofeedback have demonstrated that successful regulation of neural activity is possible in various brain regions. Since these studies focused on the regulated region(s), little is known about the target-independent mechanisms associated with neurofeedback-guided control of brain activation, i.e. the regulating network. While the specificity of the activation during self-regulation is an important factor, no study has effectively determined the network involved in self-regulation in general. In an effort to detect regions that are responsible for the act of brain regulation, we performed a post-hoc analysis of data involving different ta…
SITA/G - Description and simulation tools for public utility systems on IBM PC
1991
Abstract Simulation is a powerful and universal systems research tool for the analysis of discrete event model's functional quality. The simulation is used very widely in different areas of our everyday life. Simulation system SITA/G is produced in the Latvia University Research Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science. SITA/G softwares is proposed for using on IBM PC. SITA/G offers the facilities to describe, build and edit graphic programs by means of specification language SITA. Also the proposed system allows: 1) the visual demonstration of the simulation process of the graphic simulation programs; 2) obtaining of the probability characteristics of the systems under research. SITA/…
Effects of the Phosphodiesterase Inhibitor Enoximone on the Autonomic Innervation of the Isolated Heart
1989
Enoximone is a selective inhibitor of a low Km, cyclic AMP-specific type of phosphodiesterase (PDE III). In guinea pig and chicken atria, enoximone (0.1-100 mumol/L) caused a weak increase in the force of contraction. The heart rate was slightly enhanced or was unchanged (chicken). Enoximone (30 mumol/L) also failed to shift the concentration-response curves for the positive inotropic and chronotropic effects of norepinephrine in guinea pig atria. Under almost the same conditions, enoximone and the nonselective PDE inhibitor 3-isobutyl-1-methylxanthine (IBMX) markedly potentiated the forskolin-induced mobilization of choline from phospholipids. The concentrations of IBMX (100 mumol/L) and o…
Apple, Ibm and Microsoft in a war of signs
2007
The aim of my paper is exploring how image contributes on building the brand identity of specific organisations and how the meaning of the image can be resignified by the action of the players in a specific market. In particular, I will focus on the competition between three brands, Ibm, Apple, Microsoft. on the information technology market. My work is looking forward to be a continuation of the essay “Le vie du Logo” published in “Identités visuelles” by Jean Marie Floch about the visual competition between Apple and Ibm. I will use the tools of sociosemiotics, plastic and figurative analysis, screening more than 20 years of competition starting from 1984, the year in which the analysis o…
Muscarinic Receptor Activation Increases Efflux of Choline from Isolated Heart and Rat Cortex in Vivo. Interactions with Forskolin and IBMX
1986
Muscarinic receptor activation modulates functions of the heart and neurotransmission in the peripheral and central nervous system. Moreover, muscarinic agonists produce changes in the metabolism of, for example, heart tissue, such as inhibition of beta-adrenoceptor-mediated cAMP accumulation, glycogenolysis and lipase activation.
Propaganda Barometer : A Supportive Tool to Improve Media Literacy Towards Building a Critically Thinking Society
2018
To smartly consume a huge and constantly growing volume of information, to identify fake news and resist propaganda in the context of Information Warfare, to improve personal critical thinking capabilities and increase media literacy, people require supportive environment with sophisticated technology facilitated tools. With rapid development of media, widespread popularity of social networks and fast growing amount of information distribution channels, propaganda and information warfare enter an absolutely new digital technology supported cyber era. Propaganda mining is not a trivial and very time consuming process for human. And, as with any new technology, human need certain time to unde…
Benzimidazolones and renzapride facilitate acetylcholine release from guinea-pig myenteric plexus via 5-HT4 receptors
1995
The effects of the 5-HT4 receptor agonists BIMU 8, BIMU 1, renzapride and of the 5-HT1p receptor agonist 5-hydroxyindalpine on basal and electrically evoked outflow of tritium were studied in guinea-pig longitudinal muscle myenteric plexus preparations preincubated with [3H]choline. Muscle contractions were recorded simultaneously. BIMU 8 caused a calcium dependent and tetrodotoxin sensitive increase in basal [3H]outflow that was assumed to represent release of [3H]acetylcholine. In addition, BIMU 8 enhanced the release of [3H]acetylcholine and twitch contractions evoked by submaximal electrical stimulation. Ondansetron (1 μmol/l) did not change the effects of BIMU 8, but DAU 6285 and tropi…
Robust digital optimal control on IBM quantum computers
2022
The ability of pulse-shaping devices to generate accurately quantum optimal control is a strong limitation to the development of quantum technologies. We propose and demonstrate a systematic procedure to design robust digital control processes adapted to such experimental constraints. We show to what extent this digital pulse can be obtained from its continuous-time counterpart. A remarkable efficiency can be achieved even for a limited number of pulse parameters. We experimentally implement the protocols on IBM quantum computers for a single qubit, obtaining an optimal robust transfer in a time T = 382 ns.
