This doctoral dissertation explores leadership in the dyadic relationship of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and the Chair of the Board, and in the process leading to CEO dismissal. The study contributes to the literature on relational leadership and the human side of corporate governance and Board work by increasing understanding of the relational practices and processes of the CEO and Chair. A theoretical model is developed of the construction of the CEO-Chair relationship. The Chief Information Office of the Polish Army conducted a review of Polish officers im p risoned in the German captivity during the World War II. W czasie II wojny światowej w niemieckiej niewoli przetrzymywanych było około 20 tys. polskich oficerów. Więzieni byli w pierwszych latach niewoli w kilkunastu, a od końca 1942 r. czterech oflagach: II C Woldenberg (Dobiegniew), VIIA Murnau, II D Gross Born (Borne Sulinowo), VI B Dóssel. Oficerowie zawodowi stanowili około 35% jeńców oflagów. W specyficznych warunkach, w jakich się znaleźli, wyłączeni czasowo z walki, dalej pozostawali żołnierzami. Spoczywał na nich obowiązek walki o wolną Polskę, wydostania się z niewoli i podjęcie walki z okupantem w kraju lub na frontach toczącej się wojny.
