The article aims to explore the influence of the Dictionnaire de l'Académie française on French-Italian bilingual lexicography in a chronological arc between 1871 and 2000. In particular, the prefaces of the main bilingual dictionaries published in the period considere…

One repetition maximum bench press performance: A new approach for its evaluation in inexperienced males and females: A pilot study

2014

Summary The aim of this study was to evaluate a new method to perform the one repetition maximum (1RM) bench press test, by combining previously validated predictive and practical procedures. Eight young male and 7 females participants, with no previous experience of resistance training, performed a first set of repetitions to fatigue (RTF) with a workload corresponding to 1/3 of their body mass (BM) for a maximum of 25 repetitions. Following a 5-min recovery period, a second set of RTF was performed with a workload corresponding to 1/2 of participants’ BM. The number of repetitions performed in this set was then used to predict the workload to be used for the 1RM bench press test using May…

1RM BENCH PRESS PERFORMANCE: A NEW METHOD OF EVALUATION IN RECREATIONAL MALE AND FEMALE

2014

It is widely recognised that the 1 RM bench press test is the most valid in evaluating the upper body maximal strength in both athletes and sedentary individuals. Various approaches are used for its evaluation, both through prediction equations or practical attempts. The aim of this study was to assess a new method to perform the bench press test combining previously validated theoretical and practical procedures. Fifteen participants (8 male Age=23.5±2.3 FM%=17.3±9.2 and 7 female Age=27.9±10 FM%=25.6±6.9) with no specific training history were tested. Physiological parameters ware recorded before, during and after each test. Participants had to perform a set of repetitions to fatigue (RTF)…

16S rDNA analysis for characterization of denitrifying bacteria isolated from three agricultural soils

2000

Bacteria capable of denitrification are spread among phylogenetically diverse groups. In the present investigation, molecular methods (amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis (ARDRA) and partial 16S rDNA gene sequencing) were used to determine the genetic diversity of culturable denitrifying soil bacteria. The purpose of this work was to study the microbial density and diversity of denitrifying communities isolated from two luvisols and a rendosol. The denitrifying bacterial density was significantly higher in the two luvisols (3x10(6) and 4x10(6) bacteria g(-1) dry soil) than in the rendosol (4x10(5) bacteria g(-1) dry soil). Denitrifying isolates from soils were grouped according to …

Effect of ferritin overexpression in tobacco on the structure of bacterial and pseudomonad communities associated with the roots

2006

The genetic structures of total bacterial and pseudomonad communities were characterized in rhizosphere soil and rhizoplane+root tissues of tobacco wild type and a ferritin overexpressor transgenic line (P6) by a cultivation-independent method using directly extracted DNA at the end of three consecutive plant cultures. The structure of total bacterial communities was characterized by automated ribosomal intergenic spacer analysis (A-RISA), and that of pseudomonad communities was characterized by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) from DNA amplified with specific primers. The structure of total bacterial communities was significantly modified in the rhizosphere soil by t…

Ecological fitness of the biocontrol agent Fusarium oxysporum Fo47 in soil and its impact on the soil microbial communities

2009

Some nonpathogenic strains of Fusarium oxysporum can control Fusarium diseases responsible for severe damages in many crops. Success of biological control provided by protective strains requires their establishment in the soil. The strain Fo47 has proved its efficacy under experimental conditions, but its ecological fitness has not been carefully studied. In a series of microcosm studies, the ability of a benomyl-resistant mutant Fo47b10 to establish in two different soils was demonstrated. One year after its introduction at two concentrations in the disinfected soils, the biocontrol agent (BCA) established at similar high population densities, whereas in the nondisinfected soils it survive…

Chromosome-scale assembly of the yellow mealworm genome

2022

Background: The yellow mealworm beetle, Tenebrio molitor, is a promising alternative protein source for animal and human nutrition and its farming involves relatively low environmental costs. For these reasons, its industrial scale production started this century. However, to optimize and breed sustainable new T. molitor lines, the access to its genome remains essential. Methods: By combining Oxford Nanopore and Illumina Hi-C data, we constructed a high-quality chromosome-scale assembly of T. molitor. Then, we combined RNA-seq data and available coleoptera proteomes for gene prediction with GMOVE. Results: We produced a high-quality genome with a N50 = 21.9Mb with a completeness of 99.5% an…
