Diastereoselectivity of the Addition of Propargylic Magnesium Reagents to Fluorinated Aromatic Sulfinyl Imines.
2021
The addition of propargylmagnesium bromide to fluorinated aromatic sulfinyl imines gave homopropargyl amines with total regio- and diastereoselection. Complete reversal of diastereoselectivity can be achieved in some cases using coordinating (THF) or noncoordinating (DCM) solvents. Substituted propargylic magnesium reagents have been also tested toward fluorinated aryl sulfinyl imines affording chiral homoallenyl amines with good yields and selectivity control. DFT calculations helped to rationalize the origin of the experimental regio- and diastereoselectivities observed in each case.
Halide-Mediated Modification of Magnetism and Electronic Structure of α-Co(II) Hydroxides: Synthesis, Characterization, and DFT+U Simulations.
2019
The present study introduces a comprehensive exploration in terms of physicochemical characterization and calculations based on density functional theory with Hubbard's correction (DFT+U) of the whole family of α-Co(II) hydroxyhalide (F, Cl, Br, I). These samples were synthesized at room temperature by employing a one-pot approach based on the epoxide route. A thorough characterization (powder X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis/mass spectroscopy, and magnetic and conductivity measurements) corroborated by simulation is presented that analyzes the structural, magnetic, and electronic aspects. Beyond the inherent tendency of intercalated anions to …
N-Acyl-glutarimides: Effect of Glutarimide Ring on the Structures of Fully Perpendicular Twisted Amides and N–C Bond Cross-Coupling
2020
N-Acyl-glutarimides have emerged as the most reactive precursors for N-C(O) bond cross-coupling reactions to date, wherein the reactivity is driven by ground-state destabilization of the amide bond. Herein, we report a full study on the effect of a glutarimide ring on the structures, electronic properties, and reactivity of fully perpendicular N-acyl-glutarimide amides. Most notably, this report demonstrates the generality of deploying N-acyl-glutarimides to achieve full twist of the acyclic amide bond, and results in the discovery of N-acyl-glutarimide amide with an almost perfect twist value, τ = 89.1°. X-ray structures of five new N-acyl-glutarimides are reported. Reactivity studies in t…
N-Cobaltocenium Amide as Reactive Nucleophilic Reagent for Donor–Acceptor Bimetallocenes
2017
Deprotonation of the aminocobaltocenium ion [Cc-NH2]+ ([H-1]+) generates the nucleophilic imine CcNH (1). Reaction of 1 with acid chlorides R–COCl (R = Ph, Fc, and Cc+) yields the reference amide [Ph-CO-NH-Cc]+ (2+) and the amide-linked hetero- and homobimetallocenes [Fc-CO-NH-Cc]+ (3+) and [Cc-CO-NH-Cc]2+ (42+), respectively. Cation–anion interactions of charged amides 2+–42+ in the solid state and in solution are probed by single crystal X-ray diffraction and NMR and IR spectroscopy. Intramolecular metal–metal interactions in donor–acceptor heterobimetallocene 3+ and in mixed-valent homobimetallocene 4+ (prepared electrochemically) are discussed within the Marcus–Hush framework aided by s…
A new polyketide from the bark of Hypericum roeperianum Schimp. (Hypericaceae)
2019
The isolation and spectroscopic data of a hitherto undescribed polyketide (1) from Hypericum roeperianum Schimp. (Hypericaceae) together with six known compounds (2–7) is herein reported. The struc...
A metal-free and regioselective approach to (Z)-β-fluorovinyl sulfones and their chemoselective hydrogenation to β-fluoroalkyl sulfones
2018
Abstract A highly regioselective, metal-free hydrofluorination reaction of alkynyl sulfones was developed using TBAF—one of the cheapest and most commonly available fluoride sources. In addition, the reactivity of the resulting β-fluorovinyl sulfones was studied, focusing on their selective hydrogenation reaction. Both β-fluorovinyl sulfones and their hydrogenation products β-fluoroalkyl sulfones may find applications in medicinal and agrochemical sciences.
Unveiling the high reactivity of cyclohexynes in [3 + 2] cycloaddition reactions through the molecular electron density theory
2018
[3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) reactions of cyclohexyne, a cyclic strained acetylene, with methyl azide and methoxycarbonyl diazomethane have been studied within the Molecular Electron Density Theory (MEDT) at the MPWB1K/6-311G(d) computational level. These 32CA reactions, which take place through a one-step mechanism involving highly asynchronous transition state structures, proceed with relatively low activation enthalpies of 6.0 and 4.3 kcal mol-1, respectively, both reactions being strongly exothermic. The reactions are initiated by the creation of a pseudoradical center at one of the two acetylenic carbons of cyclohexyne with a very low energy cost, 1.0 kcal mol-1, which promotes the eas…
Reversible Covalent and Supramolecular Functionalization of Water-Soluble Gold(I) Complexes.
2017
The ligation of gold(I) metalloamphiphiles with biomolecules is reported, using water-soluble AuI -N-alkynyl substituted maleimide complexes. For this purpose, two different polar ligands were applied: 1) a neutral, dendritic tetraethylene glycol-functionalized phosphane and 2) a charged, sulfonated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC). The retro Diels-Alder reaction of a furan-protected maleimide gold(I) complex, followed by cycloaddition with a diene-functionalized biotin under mild conditions leads to a novel gold(I) metalloamphiphile. The strong streptavidin-biotin binding affinity in buffered aqueous solution of the resulting biotin alkynyl gold(I) phosphane conjugate remains intact. The cytot…
Ionic Liquid Gels: Supramolecular Reaction Media for the Alcoholysis of Anhydrides.
2019
The search of new enantioselective catalysts, able to promote synthetically useful organic reactions with high levels of asymmetric induction, should be associated with the attention to the suitable reaction medium able to achieve the best efficiency in chemical processes. We have investigated the enantioselective desymmetrization of cyclic meso-anhydrides in nonconventional reaction media such as ionic liquids and supramolecular gels. With this aim, we examined several variables in the reacting system: the nature of ionic liquid used as the reaction medium, the gelation solvent, the structure of the anhydrides, the structure of alcohols, the chiral catalysts, and the reaction conditions, i…
The hetero-cubane structures of the heavy alkali metal tert-amyloxides [MOCMe2Et]4 (M = K, Rb, Cs)
2018
A series of alkali metal (Li–Cs) alkoxides of tert-pentanol (1,1-dimethylpropan-1-ol) have been prepared by reaction of the corresponding metal with the alcohol in n-hexane or n-heptane. The compounds were purified by vacuum sublimation and crystallised in n-hexane to produce crystals suitable for single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The structures of the potassium, rubidium, and caesium compounds revealed tetrameric units with additional intra- and intermolecular interactions between the metal atom and alkoxide methyl groups, increasing with the size of the metal involved.
