Parameter Identification of a Winding Function Based Model for Fault Detection of Induction Machines
2018
Prediction of machines' faulty parts is important in industrial applications in order to reduce productivity losses. As far as electrical machines are considered, a model-based fault diagnosis approach is usually used for this purpose. The model is derived from the modified winding function theory and hence, it requires a considerable amount of parameters at various operating conditions in order to be successfully used. However, the complete set of parameters is difficult to be obtained, as manufacturers of electric machines normally provide only the parameters that describe simple motor models (e.g. T-equivalent circuit at rated conditions). Therefore, the current work presents a method th…
ADC based measurements: Identification of the parameters for the uncertainty evaluation
2009
In the last years, many Authors have dealt with the uncertainty evaluation of the measurement performed by using an analog-to-digital converter, proposing different approach to analyze the uncertainty propagation. In all these studies, it is clearly pointed out that starting from the manufacturer specifications is the least expensive, the least time consuming and, often, the most accurate way to assess the uncertainties. However, the Authors, which have proposed methodologies for the uncertainty assessment, use different parameters as starting point. One of the main reasons which has caused this situation is the coexistent of various Standards concerning the characterization of the analog-t…
Looking Beyond Genres: Identifying Meaningful Semantic Layers from Tags in Online Music Collections
2011
A scheme for identifying the semantic layers of music-related tags is presented. Arguments are provided why the applications of the tags cannot be effectively pursued without a reasonable understanding of their semantic qualities. The identification scheme consists of a set of filters. The first is related with social consensus, user-count ratio, and n-gram properties of tags. The next relies on look-up functions across multiple databases to determine the probable semantic layer of each tag. Examples of the semantic layers with prevalence rates are given based on application of the scheme to a subset of the Million Song Dataset. Finally, a validation of the results was carried out with an i…
Data-based modeling of vehicle collision by LPV-ARMAX model approach
2013
Vehicle crash are considered to be events with high complexity from the mathematical points of view. The high experiment cost and huge time-consumption make the establishment of a mathematical model of vehicle crash which can simplify the analysis process in great demand. In this work, we present the application of LPV-ARMAX model to simulate the car-to-pole collision with different initial impact velocities. The parameters of the LPV-ARMAX are assumed to be functions of the initial impact velocities. Instead of establishing a set of LTI models for vehicle crashes with various impact velocities, the LPV-ARMAX model is comparatively simple and applicable to predict the responses of new colli…
METHOD FOR DETECTING A SONIC IMPRINT OF A THREE-DIMENSIONAL OBJECT AND RELATED APPARATUS
2013
Non invasive method used to detect a “sonic imprint” of three-dimensional objects, particularly suitable for the identification and monitoring of artworks, consisting in acquiring the vibrations caused by a source of elastic waves and using a set of detectors fixed in various predetermined points of the external surface of the object. An apparatus, cheap and simple to utilize, suitable to execute this method, is also described.
PARAMETER BOUNDED ESTIMATION FOR QUASISPECIES MODELS OF MOLECULAR EVOLUTION
2006
Abstract The Quasispecies models identification for Evolutionary Dynamics is considered in a worst-case deterministic setting. These models analyze the DNA and RNA evolution or describe the population dynamics of viruses and bacteria. In this paper we identify the Fitness and the Replication Probability parameters of a genetic sequences, subject to a set of stringent constraints to have physical meaning and to guarantee positiveness. The conditional central estimate and the Uncertainty Intervals are determined. The effectiveness of the proposed procedure has been illustrated by means of simulation experiments while tests on real data are under concern.
Sexual dichromatism in Mediterranean storm petrels Hydrobates pelagicus melitensis.
2010
We propose the use of a non-invasive technique for sexing the Mediterranean subspecies of the European storm petrel Hydrobates pelagicus melitensis. We found that this subspecies shows sexual dimorphism in rump band width and wing length. Fast and cheap sex identification methods can improve conservation programs and population studies of this species.

A statistical moments based approach for the dynamic identification of civil structures
2012
In recent years, interest in developing identification techniques that are valid in the case of unmeasured input has increased. In this field some interesting parametric approaches have been proposed. Nevertheless, the improvement of the available techniques or the formulation of new techniques is desirable. In this paper a time domain dynamic identification approach based on the statistical moments of the response of civil structures under base random excitations is discussed. Two types of models are used: the classically damped models characterized by mass proportional damping and the so-called “potential models” which are non linear in damping and stiffness. By applying the Itô different…
