Contactless power transfer application for devices identification

2019

This paper deals with the problem of non-contact power transfer systems to identify components based on infrared signatures reading. This approach enables the distinction of a larger number of different devices situated in a relatively small area, compared to RFID technology. Moreover, the presented infrared contactless identification is resilient to natural environmental infrared perturbations. The advantages of this approach are demonstrated in a simple use-case: continuously identifying low consumption chess pieces on a custom chessboard. This approach can be further instantiated for high consumption devices such as electrically charging small autonomous guided vehicles.

Magnetic Levitation – Modelling, Identification and Open Loop Verification

2020

<p>The paper describes a procedure using the first principle modelling and experimental identification of the Magnetic Levitation Model CE 152. It is a modified version of the paper [1]. The difference is that the identification and verification is done in open loop and constraints logic is added in the current paper. The author optimized and simplified dynamic model to a minimum to what is needed to characterize given system for the simulation and control design purposes. Only few open-loop experiments are needed to estimate the unknown parameters. Model quality is verified in open loop where the real and simulated data are compared. The model can serve as a simulation model for some…

Reliability of Parameter Estimation Methods Applied to the Identification of Biomedical Multicompartment Systems

1985

Abstract The reliability of parameter estimation in biomedical multicompartment models is influenced by the chosen mathematical representation of the model, by the sensitivity of the output on the relevant parameters to be identified and by the experimental conditions, e.g. choice of the data-set. this paper the reliability of different parameter estimation methods applied in a multi-compartment model of the circulatory system has been studied under the assumption that there exists a partially system output insensitivity against the compliance parameters. Suitable conditions for efficient parameter estimation have been found by simulation of sensitivity equations of the system, which is of …

Tarifas Portuárias: Um Estudo Comparativo entre os Sistemas Portuário Brasileiro e Espanhol

2014

The objective of this study is to investigate and document the system of port taxes in Brazil and Spain. To achieve this, we consulted the laws, rules and documents, and the websites of the main Brazilian and Spanish ports. The study is unprecedented and brings out a little researched topic in Brazil, which is the port taxes. The results show that the Spanish system is structured by defining the different types of taxes to be charges. While the tax for Brazilian ports is confusing to present a diversity of shapes and charging models. This study has practical implications as they search alercar and present a system that can serve as a model for Brazil. This is because the port rates have a d…

Effects of Perceived Identity Based on Corporate Social Responsibility: The Role of Consumer Identification with the Company

2009

The paper focuses on the mediating role of consumer identification with a company in the effect of corporate social responsibility (CSR)-based perceived identity on consumer behaviour. More specifically, it deals with the direct and indirect influences of identification with a socially responsible company on purchase intent, through two affective variables – attitude and affective commitment to the company. After the literature review that supports the hypotheses, an empirical study was carried out to test the proposed model. Findings show that CSR-based consumer-company identification influences purchase intent through the mediator role of company attitude and company commitment. This invo…

On the search for elements beyond Z =118. An outlook based on lessons from the heaviest known elements

2016

Recently, IUPAC approved all elements up to Z = 118 as discovered. Search experiments for the heavier elements with Z = 119 and 120 have been performed in recent years, but have so far not led to their discovery. I will review some aspects associated with the study and identification of the heaviest known elements that are relevant for future search experiments for elements beyond Z = 118 and highlight pressing issues that should be addressed, both on the experimental as well as on the theory side, to allow for performing these future experiments under improved and better informed conditions.

Analysis of Hyperspectral Images of Citrus Fruits

2010

Publisher Summary Some of the most important aspects that need to be taken into consideration when developing a hyperspectral inspection system for citrus include the geometry of the fruit, the emission spectrum of the lighting source, and their interaction. Because many citrus fruits are almost spherical, each point of their surface reflects the electromagnetic radiation differently toward the camera. This causes a gradual darkening of the image especially the further pixels from the light source, which is a phenomenon that must be artificially corrected. In addition, the variation of the efficiency of the filters with the wavelength should be also taken into consideration to enable the ap…

Deep Residual Neural Network for Child’s Spontaneous Facial Expressions Recognition

2021

Early identification of deficits in emotion recognition and expression skills may prevent low social functioning in adulthood. Deficits in young children’s ability to recognize facial expressions can lead to impairments in social functioning. Kids may need extra help learning to read facial expressions. Most of the earlier efforts consider the problem of emotion recognition in adults; however, ignore the child’s emotions, especially in an unconstrained environment. In this paper, we present progressive light residual learning to classify spontaneous emotion recognition in children. Unlike earlier residual neural network, we reduce the skip connection at the earlier part of the network and i…

Pattern Identification by Factor Analysis for Regions with Similar Economic Activity Based on Mobile Communication Data

2018

The study analyses the regions’ economic activity in Latvia using Latvia Mobile Telephone (LMT) mobile communication data from July 2015 to January 2017. The call activity and a number of unique phone users by 119 Latvia counties and biggest cities were analysed in two steps: at first method of principal components was used to explain the variance in the data and then exploratory factor analysis was applied. Three factors were identified that describe 87.5% of the total variance of the aggregated daily data. The first factor is related more to the regions with higher economic activity, the second and third factors capture, respectively, lowers call activity during weekdays and are related t…

Information and Communication Technology as a Differentiation Tool in Restaurants

2014

Hospitality companies implement various communication and information technologies to improve efficiency and customer service, among other aspects. However, the literature has paid little attention to investment in technology by restaurants. Therefore, this article aims at testing the use of technology as a differentiation instrument by restaurants. As a result of this analysis for a sample of 150 restaurant owners or managers, these findings allow the identification of the specific technology solutions that make the difference across restaurants and, thus, to infer the information and communication technologies that should be prioritized by restaurant owners/managers depending on their res…
