Ski jumping takeoff in a wind tunnel with skis.
2011
The effect of skis on the force–time characteristics of the simulated ski jumping takeoff was examined in a wind tunnel. Takeoff forces were recorded with a force plate installed under the tunnel floor. Signals from the front and rear parts of the force plate were collected separately to examine the anteroposterior balance of the jumpers during the takeoff. Two ski jumpers performed simulated takeoffs, first without skis in nonwind conditions and in various wind conditions. Thereafter, the same experiments were repeated with skis. The jumpers were able to perform very natural takeoff actions (similar to the actual takeoff) with skis in wind tunnel. According to the subjective feeling of the…
Pandemia murentaa pohjaa Kiinan maailmanvalloitukselta
2020
Vaikka Kiina on selvinnyt koronviruksesta suhteellisen vähällä, iskee epidemia voimakkaasti maan ulkopoliittisen strategian tukipilareihin. Talouden romahdus ja mainetappio kansainvälisen yhteisön edessä pakottavat arvioimaan uudelleen ennusteet, joissa Kiina vahvistuu ja siirtyy johtavaan maailmanpoliittiseen asemaan. nonPeerReviewed

Internalization of novel non-viral vector TAT-streptavidin into human cells
2007
Background. The cell-penetrating peptide derived from the Human immunodeficiency virus-1 transactivator protein Tat possesses the capacity to promote the effective uptake of various cargo molecules across the plasma membrane in vitro and in vivo. The objective of this study was to characterize the uptake and delivery mechanisms of a novel streptavidin fusion construct, TAT47–57-streptavidin (TAT-SA, 60 kD). SA represents a potentially useful TAT-fusion partner due to its ability to perform as a versatile intracellular delivery vector for a wide array of biotinylated molecules or cargoes. Results. By confocal and immunoelectron microscopy the majority of internalized TAT-SA was shown to accu…
Becoming interested during teacher education
2018
In this article we examine first-year student teachers’ possibilities to become interested in professional issues in teacher education. We study the phenomenon of becoming interested among first-year student teachers via three different kinds of data. We analysed our data through John Dewey’s definition of interest, where a person has an interest if s/he is actively keen on some object that has personal meaning for her/him. According to our data, student teachers adopt an object of interest that teacher educators provide. Learners found it difficult to find the objects of interests by themselves, and it was exceptional for them to find personal meaning and an active state of interest. This …

Androgyynit sankarit : Final Fantasy -pelisarjan sukupuolikuvien tarkastelua
2012
Käsittelen tutkimuksessa japanilaisen Final Fantasy -konsolipelisarjan sukupuolikuvia.

The 'jytky' of the Finns party : or, how to take advantage of masculinity in populist politics
2018
In this article the authors look at the way leading politicians of the Finns Party have appealed to masculine values. The exceptional rise of the populist party between 2003 and 2015 is seen as a major indicator of the overall rise of ‘masculinist’ values in Finnish politics. However, the question is not only of more masculinist politics, but also of a change in styles of masculinity – a shift towards a plurality of different political styles emphasizing masculine values. This does not preclude the ideological nature of the adherence to those values but sets new challenges to scholarship addressing what has been called backlash of traditional values in recent years in Europe and from 2016 o…
