Ahlfors-regular distances on the Heisenberg group without biLipschitz pieces

We show that the Heisenberg group is not minimal in looking down. This answers Problem 11.15 in `Fractured fractals and broken dreams' by David and Semmes, or equivalently, Question 22 and hence also Question 24 in `Thirty-three yes or no questions about mappings, measures, and metrics' by Heinonen and Semmes. The non-minimality of the Heisenberg group is shown by giving an example of an Ahlfors $4$-regular metric space $X$ having big pieces of itself such that no Lipschitz map from a subset of $X$ to the Heisenberg group has image with positive measure, and by providing a Lipschitz map from the Heisenberg group to the space $X$ having as image the whole $X$. Evidence of oblate-prolate shape coexistence in the strongly-deformed nucleus 119Cs

International audience; Prolate-oblate shape coexistence close to the ground state in the strongly-deformed proton-rich A≈120 nuclei is reported for the first time. One of the four reported bands in 119Cs, built on a 11/2− state at 670 keV, consists of nearly degenerate signature partners, and has properties which unequivocally indicate the strongly-coupled πh11/2[505]11/2− configuration associated with oblate shape. Together with the decoupled πh11/2[541]3/2− band built on the 11/2− prolate state at 110 keV, for which a half-life of T1/2=55(5)μs has been measured, the new bands bring evidence of shape coexistence at low spin in the proton-rich strongly deformed A≈120 nuclei, a phenomenon p…
Isovector and isoscalar spin-multipole giant resonances in the parent and daughter nuclei of double-β-decay triplets

The strength distributions, including giant resonances, of isovector and isoscalar spin-multipole transitions in the commonly studied double-β-decay triplets are computed in the framework of the quasiparticle random-phase approximation (QRPA) using the Bonn-A two-body interaction in no-core single-particle valence spaces. The studied nuclei include the double-β parent and daughter pairs (76Ge, 76Se), (82Se, 82Kr), (96Zr, 96Mo), (100Mo, 100Ru), (116Cd, 116Sn), (128Te, 128Xe), (130Te, 130Xe), and (136Xe, 136Ba). The studied transitions proceed from the ground states to the Jπ=0−,1−,2− (spin-dipole transitions) and Jπ=1+,2+,3+ (spin-quadrupole transitions) excited states in these nuclei. Compa…

Various data platforms force the individual into constant presence and visibility. However, the ways in which datafied environments relate to experienced vulnerabilities in our everyday lives remain unclear. Through diaries produced by and interviews with participants from three groups who occupy presumably vulnerable positions and who currently live in Finland, we explore the ways in which people challenge expectations and prior assumptions related to forced visibility. Tarkastelen artikkelissa Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seuran (SKS) arkiston suhdetta kouluihin: sitä, missä rooleissa opettajat ja oppilaat ovat toimineet perinteen ja nykykulttuurin tallentamisessa 1800-luvulta tähän päivään ja millaisia tavoitteita SKS:llä on eri aikoina ollut koulujen kanssa tehdylle yhteistyölle. SKS perustettiin vuonna 1831 edistämään suomen kielen ja suomenkielisen kirjallisuuden asemaa. Kansanperinteen keruu ja tallentaminen kuuluivat seuran toimintaan alusta lähtien. Čeginskas, and Sigrid Kaasik-Krogerus scrutinize how people who participate in cultural initiatives funded and governed by the European Union understand the idea of Europe. The book focuses on three cultural initiatives: the European Capital of Culture, the European Heritage Label, and a European Citizen Campus project funded through the Creative Europe programme. These initiatives are examined through field studies conducted in 12 countries between 2010 and 2018. Tutkielman tarkoituksena on tarkastella angloamerikkalaisen historiankirjoituksen antamaa kuvaa islamin varhaisista valloituksista. Tutkimuksen kohteena eivät suoranaisesti ole itse valloitukset, vaan nykyaikaisten länsimaisten historiankirjoittajien niistä luoma kuva. 1. Due to globalisation, trade and transport, the spread of alien species is increasing dramatically. Some alien species become ecologically harmful by threatening native biota. This can lead to irreversible changes in local biodiversity and ecosystem functioning, and, ultimately, to biotic homogenisation. 2. We risk-assessed all alien plants, animals, fungi and algae, within certain delimitations, that are known to reproduce in Norway. Mainland Norway and the Arctic archipelago of Svalbard plus Jan Mayen were treated as separate assessment areas.
