By analysing three museums exhibition, this article investigates how the history of European colonialism is approached in an attempt to identify potential for decolonising European minds. The case studies consist of a temporary exhibition (2016–2017) concerning German colonialism at the Deutsches Historisches Museum in Berlin; the permanent exhibition of the House of European History in Brussels and the permanent exhibition of the Sagres Promontory (Portugal), a heritage site related to the conquest of the Americas. STTEPping in the right direction? Western classical music in an orchestral programme for disadvantaged African youth

This article looks at STTEP, an outreach project currently housed at the University of Pretoria, which concentrates on the teaching of western orchestral instruments, plus background areas such as music theory, to disadvantaged children and youth from a variety of townships around Pretoria, South Africa. STTEP’s direction can well be described as ‘right’ – pupils are already surrounded by all kinds of global phenomena, and their formal music studies in western classical music are not making them forget their roots. In fact, the contrary has been found to be the case and some interesting cultural fusions are already seen – always a sign of a living culture.
Neutral experts or passionate participants? Renegotiating expertise and the right to act in Finnish participatory social policy

This article examines a case of participatory social policy in which former beneficiaries were invited as ‘experts-by-experience’ into Finnish social welfare organisations. It combines a governmentality perspective with the analytical tools of the sociology of engagements to explore as what the projects’ participants are engaged, and how the differing demands made on their ways of being are made to appear as legitimate. The article shows how different definitions of expertise are used to steer the participants’ forms of engagement, and how these definitions appear valid only within a specific frame of justifying civic participation. This article assesses the official music scene in Pyongyang over a span of five dramatic years, surveying how changes in the field of music from 2009 to 2014 mirrored and in some cases presaged North Korean dynastic succession and political consolidation. The article draws upon a new abundance of performance data on North Korean musical groups, data which we argue is important but has largely been ignored or mischaracterized heretofore. This article analyses the role of affect and emotions in Finland’s first large-scale anti-deportation protest, the 2017 Right to Live protest in Helsinki. Despite deportation protests having recently gained scholarly attention, their emotional dimensions have not been sufficiently studied, especially as concerns the emotions of protestors with vulnerable legal status. This article is based on in-depth interviews with key activists in the anti-deportation protest network in Finland, including asylum seekers, refugees and Finnish citizens. The teacher-in-role (TIR) strategy is used in process drama to strengthen the dramatic experience and promote learning among the participants. In this study, one TIR construct is examined through the lens of Erving Goffman’s concept of facework in order to deepen the understanding of the subtle and vulnerable processes of interaction in process drama. Measurement of D0, D+, D*+ and D+s production in pp collisions at √s = 5.02 TeV with ALICE

The measurements of the production of prompt D0 , D+ , D∗+ , and D+s mesons in proton–proton (pp) collisions at s√=5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are reported. D mesons were reconstructed at mid-rapidity ( |y|<0.5 ) via their hadronic decay channels D0→K−π+ , D+→K−π+π+ , D∗+→D0π+→K−π+π+ , D+s→ϕπ+→K+K−π+ , and their charge conjugates. The production cross sections were measured in the transverse momentum interval 0<pT<36 GeV/c for D0 , 1<pT<36 GeV/c for D+ and D∗+ , and in 2<pT<24 GeV/c for D+s mesons. The azimuthal anisotropy coefficient v 2 of prompt D 0 , D + , D * + , and D + s mesons was measured in midcentral (30%–50% centrality class) Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair √ s N N = 5.02 TeV , with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The D mesons were reconstructed via their hadronic decays at midrapidity, | y | < 0.8 , in the transverse momentum interval 1 < p T < 24 GeV / c . The measured D -meson v 2 has similar values as that of charged pions. The D + s v 2 , measured for the first time, is found to be compatible with that of nonstrange D mesons. Measurement of azimuthal correlations of D mesons with charged particles in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

The azimuthal correlations of D mesons with charged particles were measured with the ALICE apparatus in pp collisions at √s = 7 TeV and p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. D0, D+, and D∗+ mesons and their charge conjugates with transverse momentum 3 0.3 GeV/c. The yield of charged particles in the correlation peak induced by the jet containing the D meson and the peak width are compatible within uncertainties in the two collision systems. The data are described within uncertainties by Monte-Carlo simulations based on PYTHIA, POWHEG, and EPOS 3 event generators. peerReviewed
