Misfire Detection System based on the Measure of Crankshaft Angular Velocity

2007

Misfire detection systems are becoming increasingly important in automotive market due to recent environmental issues (Euro rules). An early misfire diagnosis also allows to prevent damages to the exhaust emission system and consequent costs for the user. Today few low cost methods exists in order to precisely detect single misfires in real time, the majority in fact require the use of expensive sensors (e.g. pressure sensors) or dedicated circuits (e.g. ionization current sensing). This work describes a method and electronic system capable of detecting misfires with good accuracy, using parameters such as the speed sensor signal, already available in commercial engines. The proposed method…

A DSP-Based Resolver-To-Digital Converter for High-Performance Electrical Drive Applications

2016

This paper presents a low cost, simple, and highly accurate resolver-to-digital converter (RDC) for electrical drive applications based on an integrated software approach, thus allowing a significant reduction of hardware components count with significant improvements in terms of reliability, reduction of fault rate, and susceptibility to electromagnetic interference (EMI). Particular attention has been addressed to cost which is 25% off over conventional RDC. Simulations and experimental tests confirm the high quality of the proposed system.

A multi-sensor multi-rate algorithm for motor rehabilitation with Augmented Reality devices

2016

Using Augmented Reality (AR) could offer stimuli to rehabilitation from neuro-motor disorders, since the patient can be aided in a better known reality than Virtual Reality (VR). The main goal for an AR system is to achieve a good quality of tracking the real object to align with virtual contents. Often a single sensor could not provide enough information to that end due to a low updating rate; therefore joining an other high updating rate sensor could be indispensable, but how to combine data from different sensors especially when they work all at different rates? In this paper an approach based on recursive parameter estimation, focusing on multi-rate tracking in AR devices is suggested. …

An Adaptive Robust Predictive Current Control for Three-Phase Grid-Connected Inverters

2011

This paper presents an adaptive robust predictive current control (RPCC) for grid-connected three-phase inverters that exhibit zero steady-state current error. The error correction is achieved by means of an adaptive strategy that works in parallel with the deadbeat algorithm, therefore preserving the typical fast response of the predictive law. The resulting control adapts to any particular L or LCL filter by estimation of the resistive part of the filter. As a variety of the RPCC class of control, it offers the best tradeoff between robustness and speed. © 2009 IEEE.

Sensorless Control of PMSM Fractional Horsepower Drives by Signal Injection and Neural Adaptive-Band Filtering

2012

This paper presents a sensorless technique for permanent-magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) based on high-frequency pulsating voltage injection. Starting from a speed estimation scheme well known in the literature, this paper proposes the adoption of a neural network (NN) based adaptive variable-band filter instead of a fixed-bandwidth filter, needed for catching the speed information from the sidebands of the stator current. The proposed NN filter is based on a linear NN adaptive linear neuron (ADALINE), trained with a classic least mean squares (LMS) algorithm, and is twice adaptive. From one side, it is adaptive in the sense that its weights are adapted online recursively. From another si…

Configurable bandwidth imaging spectrometer based on acousto-optic tunable filter

2005

This paper presents a new portable instrument called Autonomous Tunable Filtering System (ATFS), developed for highly customisable imaging spectrometry in the VIS-NIR range. The ATFS instrument consists of an Acousto-Optic Tunable Filter (AOTF), an optical system, a Radio Frequency (RF) driver based on a Direct Digital Synthesiser (DDS) and control software. The ATFS can be attached to a variety of high-performance monochrome cameras. The system works as a spectral bandpass filter whose wavelength can be selected between 400nm and 1000nm and whose bandwidth can be adjusted between 4nm and 50nm. The filter can be tuned electronically at a very high speed and accuracy, thanks to the DDS versa…

Gabor filters in industrial inspection: a review. Application to semiconductor industry

2005

This paper focuses on reviewing some recent works of the use of Gabor filters dealing with industrial applications. After a brief recall of Gabor filter basis, the two usual uses of Gabor filters are recalled: filter bank approach and filter design approach. The third part presents recent published works domain by domain. A fourth part exposes our own work with Gabor Filters for defect detection on semiconductor. A short conclusion summarizes the paper.

Speed and rotor flux estimation of induction motors via on-line adjusted extended kalman filter

2006

This paper deals with the estimation of speed and rotor flux of induction motors via Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) with on-line adjusting of the system noise covariance matrix. The predictor of EKF consists of a discrete time model obtained by means of a second order discretization of the original nonlinear model of the induction motor. In order to obtain accurate estimation of the above mentioned variables, the load torque is included in the state variables and then estimated. Three different system noise models are also illustrated and compared each other by simulations carried out in Matlab/Simulink environment. For one of these models, EKF is adjusted on-line by means of an additional PI…

Hybrid moving bed biofilm reactors: an effective solution for upgrading a large wastewater treatment plant

2009

Over the last few years there has been a growing attention regarding the receiving water body quality state. As a matter of a fact, the Directive 91/271 of the European Union (EU) replaced the “emission standard” concept that fixes discharge limits depending on polluting emission characteristics, with the “stream standard” concept that fixes discharge limits for each polluting substance depending on self-depurative characteristics of the RWB. In this context, several WWTPs need to be upgraded in order to meet stricter effluent limits. The need of WWTP upgrading was also emphasized by the growing urbanization that have led, in most cases, to get overloaded WWTP due to an overcoming of the ma…

Rotor-bar breakage mechanism and prognosis in an induction motor

2015

© 1982-2012 IEEE. This paper proposes a condition-based maintenance and prognostics and health management (CBM/PHM) procedure for a rotor bar in an induction motor. The methodology is based on the results of a fatigue test intended to reproduce in the most natural way a bar breakage in order to carry out a comparison between transient and stationary diagnosis methods for incipient fault detection. Newly developed techniques in stator-current transient analysis have allowed tracking the developing fault during the last part of the test, identifying the failure mechanism, and establishing a physical model of the process. This nonlinear failure model is integrated in a particle filtering algor…
