Elementary transformation analysis for Array-OL

2009

Array-OL is a high-level specification language dedicated to the definition of multidimentional intensive signal processing applications. It allows to specify both the task parallelism and the data parallelism of these applications on focusing on their complex multidimensional data access patterns. Several tools exist for implementing an Array-OL specification as a data parallel program. While Array-OL can be used directly, it is often convenient to be able to deduce part of the specification from a sequential version of the application. This paper proposes such an analysis and examines its feasibility and its limits.

Genetic Algorithms: A Decision Tool in Industrial Disassembly

2008

In the recycling process of the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) the disassembly process has a central role. Disassembly is not the reverse of the assembly process, real difficulties occur in the tasks assignment process of the disassembly operations. Since this is a multi objective optimization problem, we prove that genetic algorithms provide a useful multi-criteria decision tool in the industrial disassembly process.

Towards integrated operations for ships

2013

Maritime customers will benefit greatly from integrated operations between ship and shore. It requires integrating diverse information services within a variety of communication environments, which is a complex task. The common approach to dealing with complex tasks is to use a divide-and-conquer policy and solve problems independently. Since there are mainly two challenges involved - interoperability among heterogeneous applications and connectivity through difficult maritime networks, to handle them separately has become useful. While interoperability and connectivity solutions work well individually, if we put them together in the maritime context, problems arise. We b services based int…

Managing expert knowledge in water network expansion project implementation

2021

[EN] The implementation of expansion projects of water networks supplying growing cities is deemed to be a complex decision-making problem involving both technical aspects and expert knowledge. Management and control processes must rely on experts in the field whose know-how must be coupled with techniques able to deal with the natural subjectivity that affects input evaluations. Given the presence of many decision-making elements, the choice of proper hydraulic technical parameters may be linked to the main aspects of analysis requiring formal expert evaluation. In this contribution, the simulation of hydraulic indicators is integrated with a multi-criteria approach able to eventually dete…

Order and Chaos in the Statistical Mechanics of the Integrable Models in 1+1 Dimensions

1991

This paper was presented at the meeting under this title. But, originally, the more cumbersome ‘Quantum chaos — classical chaos in k-space: thermodynamic limits for the sine-Gordon models’ was proposed. Certainly this covers more technically the content of this paper.

Le filtre de Kalman étendu à grand-gain adaptatif et ses applications

2010

The work concerns the “observability problem”—the reconstruction of a dynamic process’s full state from a partially measured state— for nonlinear dynamic systems. The Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is a widely-used observer for such nonlinear systems. However it suffers from a lack of theoretical justifications and displays poor performance when the estimated state is far from the real state, e.g. due to large perturbations, a poor initial state estimate, etc. . . We propose a solution to these problems, the Adaptive High-Gain (EKF). Observability theory reveals the existence of special representations characterizing nonlinear systems having the observability property. Such representations ar…

Electron Ion Collider: The Next QCD Frontier: Understanding the glue that binds us all

2016

International audience; This White Paper presents the science case of an Electron-Ion Collider (EIC), focused on the structure and interactions of gluon-dominated matter, with the intent to articulate it to the broader nuclear science community. It was commissioned by the managements of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) with the objective of presenting a summary of scientific opportunities and goals of the EIC as a follow-up to the 2007 NSAC Long Range plan. This document is a culmination of a community-wide effort in nuclear science following a series of workshops on EIC physics over the past decades and, in particular, the focus…

A scaling-up strategy supporting the expansion of integrated care: a study protocol

2019

Purpose To ensure that more people will benefit from integrated care initiatives, scaling-up of successful initiatives is the way forward. However, new challenges present themselves as knowledge on how to achieve successful large-scale implementation is scarce. The EU-funded project SCIROCCO uses a step-based scaling-up strategy to explore what to scale-up, and how to scale-up integrated care initiatives by matching the complementary strengths and weaknesses of five European regions involved in integrated care. The purpose of this paper is to describe a multi-method evaluation protocol designed to understand what factors influence the implementation of the SCIROCCO strategy to support the …

Predicting the environmental suitability for onchocerciasis in Africa as an aid to elimination planning

2021

Recent evidence suggests that, in some foci, elimination of onchocerciasis from Africa may be feasible with mass drug administration (MDA) of ivermectin. To achieve continental elimination of transmission, mapping surveys will need to be conducted across all implementation units (IUs) for which endemicity status is currently unknown. Using boosted regression tree models with optimised hyperparameter selection, we estimated environmental suitability for onchocerciasis at the 5 × 5-km resolution across Africa. In order to classify IUs that include locations that are environmentally suitable, we used receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis to identify an optimal threshold for suitabil…
