A new multidimensional adaptive mesh refinement hydro + gravity cosmological code

2004

A new cosmological multidimensional hydrodynamic and N-body code based on an Adaptive Mesh Refinement scheme is described and tested. The hydro part is based on modern high-resolution shock-capturing techniques, whereas N-body approach is based on the Particle Mesh method. The code has been specifically designed for cosmological applications. Tests including shocks, strong gradients, and gravity have been considered. A cosmological test based on Santa Barbara cluster is also presented. The usefulness of the code is discussed. In particular, this powerful tool is expected to be appropriate to describe the evolution of the hot gas component located inside asymmetric cosmological structures.

Towards a spin-adapted coupled-cluster theory for high-spin open-shell states

2006

A spin-adapted coupled-cluster (SA-CC) scheme based on the additional consideration of spin constraints is proposed for the quantum chemical treatment of high-spin open-shell cases. Its computational feasibility is demonstrated via a pilot implementation within the singles and doubles approximation. Test calculations indicate that the suggested SA-CC scheme provides results of similar accuracy as the more traditional schemes without spin adaptation.

The impact of grain size on the efficiency of embedded SIMD image processing architectures

2004

Pixel-per-processing element (PPE) ratio-the amount of image data directly mapped to each processing element-has a significant impact on the area and energy efficiency of embedded SIMD architectures for image processing applications. This paper quantitatively evaluates the impact of PPE ratio on system performance and efficiency for focal-plane SIMD image processing architectures by comparing throughput, area efficiency, and energy efficiency for a range of common application kernels using architectural and workload simulation. While the impact of grain size is affected by the mix of executed instructions within an application program, the most efficient PPE ratio often does not occur at PE…

Corporate User Representatives and the Dialectics of Enterprise Systems: A Quest for Social Actors with Political Skill

2008

Enterprise system implementations may be viewed as dialectics of adaptation. To reach a synthesis, a corporate user representative role is important. This paper addresses the question of who would be suitable for the role as a corporate user representative, i.e. what is required to fill the role. Drawing on an in-depth interpretive study from the oil industry, this paper contributes by augmenting our view of the corporate user representative as a multidimensional social actor. The case is from an innovative integration of ECM with collaboration technology. With a state-of-the-art combination of technologies, the task of representing 26.000 users proved to be a challenge. Based on longitudin…

Exact Voronoi diagram of smooth convex pseudo-circles: General predicates, and implementation for ellipses

2013

International audience; We examine the problem of computing exactly the Voronoi diagram (via the dual Delaunay graph) of a set of, possibly intersecting, smooth convex \pc in the Euclidean plane, given in parametric form. Pseudo-circles are (convex) sites, every pair of which has at most two intersecting points. The Voronoi diagram is constructed incrementally. Our first contribution is to propose robust and efficient algorithms, under the exact computation paradigm, for all required predicates, thus generalizing earlier algorithms for non-intersecting ellipses. Second, we focus on \kcn, which is the hardest predicate, and express it by a simple sparse $5\times 5$ polynomial system, which a…

Implementing collaborative governance: models, experiences, and challenges

2021

This paper introduces the reader to a special issue focused on Collaborative Governance implementation. The purpose of this symposium is to advance our understanding of the cross-cutting and complex issues of collaborative governance implementation, which include: (a) supporting the collaborative process through innovative models and methods for enhancing a shared understanding of community problems and outcomes, (b) fostering the interplay between service policy and service delivery, and (c) combining a public service view with an institutional and interinstitutional view

Enterprise System Implementation in a Franchise Context: An Action Case Study

2015

Abstract This research paper reports on a study focusing on a franchise relationship that utilizes an enterprise system (ES) to optimize its supply chain. The ES is in its post-implementation phase; however, the franchisee has challenges with inventory management due to poor data quality, which causes problems with vendor analysis and revenue control. An action case study was carried out to identify and diagnose the source of the problem, and interventions were implemented and evaluated. The findings demonstrate that several of the challenges related to poor data quality in the supply chain were influenced by problems of a socio-technical character. These included a lack of understanding of…

ERP Post-Implementation

2013

This exploratory study focuses on ERP post-implementation issues in Small-and-Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs). The authors conducted a case study in a small Norwegian retail company, which experienced a performance dip that lasted longer than expected. The case demonstrates how overwhelming the ERP competence requirements can be for an SME. Errors in the configuration of the ERP system and improper training led to frequent workarounds. The workarounds, in turn, led to significant problems and many errors in the database. This led to a general level of frustration with the system and a high stress level in the company. This study has implications for SMEs planning to implement ERP systems.
