NEAR-RINGS AND GROUPS OF AFFINE MAPPINGS
2013
We classify semi-topological locally compact and semi-algebraic near-rings R where the set of non-invertible elements of R forms an ideal I of R such that the multiplicative group of R/I acts sharply transitively on I\{0}. To achieve our results we use as a main tool the classi cation of locally compact and algebraic (2; 2)-transformation groups given in two previuos papers.
The application of molecular imprinting technology to solid phase extraction
2001
In parallel to a long lasting search for universal multi-purpose sorbents, the area of solid phase extraction (SPE) is recently experiencing a rapid development of new types of tailor-made class specific or compound-specific sorbents which are designed to respond to the increasing demand for selectivity and efficiency in sample clean-up prior to quantification. An important issue here is the enrichment and clean-up of complex samples, such as environmental waters, sediments, biofluids and foodstuffs prior to detection. This because the analyte is often present in low concentration in a complex mixture of similar compounds and therefore needs to be isolated and enriched in order to be detect…

UN FOCUS SUL MICROCREDITO SOCIALE E IMPRENDITORIALE IN ITALIA NELL'ULTIMO DECENNIO
2015
Exercise treatment effect modifiers in persistent low back pain: an individual participant data meta-analysis of 3514 participants from 27 randomised…
2020
BackgroundLow back pain is one of the leading causes of disability worldwide. Exercise therapy is widely recommended to treat persistent non-specific low back pain. While evidence suggests exercise is, on average, moderately effective, there remains uncertainty about which individuals might benefit the most from exercise.MethodsIn parallel with a Cochrane review update, we requested individual participant data (IPD) from high-quality randomised clinical trials of adults with our two primary outcomes of interest, pain and functional limitations, and calculated global recovery. We compiled a master data set including baseline participant characteristics, exercise and comparison characteristic…
L'impresa mafiosa: problemi definitori e questioni di metodo
2016
Il capitolo si interroga sul concetto di "impresa mafiosa" individuandone, trasversalmente ai diversi approcci che in letteratura hanno affrontato la questione, dimensioni rilevanti ed elementi critici. The chapter questions the concept of "mafia enterprise" identifying its relevant dimensions and critical elements across the various approaches that literature has addressed to the issue.
Get some respect – buy organic foods! When everyday consumer choices serve as prosocial status signaling
2020
Status considerations have recently been linked to prosocial behaviors. This research shows that even everyday consumer behaviors such as favoring organic foods serve as prosocial status signaling. Key ideas from the continuum model of consumer impression formation and the theories of costly signaling and symbolic consumption are synthetized to make sense of this phenomenon. Two web-surveys (Ns = 187, 259) and a field study (N = 336) following experimental designs are conducted. This approach allows the analysis of both the more and less conscious reactions of consumers. Study 1 shows that the image of consumers favoring organic product versions is marked by characteristics consistent with …
Abnormal Hypermethylation at Imprinting Control Regions in Patients with S-Adenosylhomocysteine Hydrolase (AHCY) Deficiency
2016
S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (AHCY) deficiency is a rare autosomal recessive disorder in methionine metabolism caused by mutations in the AHCY gene. Main characteristics are psychomotor delay including delayed myelination and myopathy (hypotonia, absent tendon reflexes etc.) from birth, mostly associated with hypermethioninaemia, elevated serum creatine kinase levels and increased genome wide DNA methylation. The prime function of AHCY is to hydrolyse and efficiently remove S-adenosylhomocysteine, the by-product of transmethylation reactions and one of the most potent methyltransferase inhibitors. In this study, we set out to more specifically characterize DNA methylation changes in blo…
Genome-wide associations for birth weight and correlations with adult disease
2016
Birth weight (BW) has been shown to be influenced by both fetal and maternal factors and in observational studies is reproducibly associated with future risk of adult metabolic diseases including type 2 diabetes (T2D) and cardiovascular disease. These life-course associations have often been attributed to the impact of an adverse early life environment. Here, we performed a multi-ancestry genome-wide association study (GWAS) meta-analysis of BW in 153,781 individuals, identifying 60 loci where fetal genotype was associated with BW (P < 5 × 10(-8)). Overall, approximately 15% of variance in BW was captured by assays of fetal genetic variation. Using genet…
