Central nervous system involvement at first relapse in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia treated with all-trans retinoic acid and anthracycl…
2009
Background The prevalence of and risk factors for central nervous system recurrence in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia are not well established and remain a controversial matter. Design and Methods Between 1996 and 2005, 739 patients with newly diagnosed acute promyelocytic leukemia enrolled in two consecutive trials (PETHEMA LPA96 and LPA99) received induction therapy-with all-trans retinoic acid and idarubicin. Consolidation therapy comprised three courses of anthracycline monochemotherapy (LPA96), with all-trans retinoic acid and reinforced doses of idarubicin in patients with an intermediate or high risk of relapse (LPA99). Central nervous system prophylaxis was not given. Re…
Violence against parents: key factors analysis
2014
Multiple scattering approach for two-electron resonant emission studied by angle-resolved coincidence spectroscopy.
2008
International audience; We have developed a generalization of the multiple-scattering formalism to deal with Auger-photoelectron coincidence spectroscopy APECS in the solid state. We have merged the exact atomic treatment of the angular correlations between the two electrons and the single-particle approach, on which the multiplescattering description of condensed matter relies. This allows the recovering, even in extended systems, of the entangled form of the electron-pair wave function characterizing the coincidence angular diffraction pattern. In the atomic limit our formalism correctly reproduces the cross section, as calculated within the statistical-tensors approach, usually employed …
Incidence and prevalence of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in Sicily: a population based study

Intestinal tuberculosis in a child living in a country with a low incidence of tuberculosis : a case report
2014
Background: Relatively common in adults, intestinal tuberculosis is considered rare in children and adolescents. The protean manifestations of intestinal tuberculosis mean that the diagnosis is often delayed (sometimes even for years), thus leading to increased mortality and unnecessary surgery. The main diagnostic dilemma is to differentiate intestinal tuberculosis and Crohn’s disease because a misdiagnosis can have dramatic consequences. Case presentation: A 13-year-old Caucasian, Italian female adolescent attended the Emergency Department complaining of abdominal pain, a fever of up to 38°C, night sweats, diarrhea with blood in stool, and a weight loss of about three kilograms over the p…
Sex differences in the management of patients with acute coronary syndrome: A population-based ecological cross-sectional study in Spain
2021
Abstract Introduction and objectives Despite evidence of a reduction in the incidence and mortality of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), some studies have highlighted differences in outcomes between men and women. We aimed to explore sex differences in the management and treatment of patients with ACS in Spain. Methods This ecological cross-sectional study combined ACS data from 10 Spanish registries (54 centres). Meta-regression analysis was performed using aggregated data of baseline characteristics, interventional procedures, treatments, and events that occurred during hospitalization and one-year follow-up. Results Aggregated data from 34 605 patients (75.1% men) was included. ST-segment e…

(1) Background: Knowledge about predictors for the long-time patency of recanalized chronic total coronary occlusions (CTOs) is limited. Evidence from invasive follow-up in the absence of acute coronary syndrome (routine surveillance coronary angiography) is scarce. (2) Methods: In a monocentric-retrospective analysis, we obtained baseline as well as periprocedural data of patients undergoing routine invasive follow-up. We defined target vessel failure (TVF) as a combined primary endpoint, consisting of re-occlusion, restenosis, and target vessel revascularization (TVR). (3) Results: We included 93 consecutive patients (15.1% female) from October 2013 to May 2018. After a follow-up period o…
Post-Infectious Myocardial Infarction: New Insights for Improved Screening
2019
Acute infection is suspected of involvement in the onset of acute myocardial infarction (MI). We aimed to assess the incidence, pathogenesis and prognosis of post-infectious MI. All consecutive patients hospitalized for an acute MI in coronary care units were prospectively included. Post-infectious MI was defined by a concurrent diagnosis of acute infection at admission. Type 1 MI (acute plaque disruption) or Type 2 MI (imbalance in oxygen supply/demand) were adjudicated according to the universal definition of MI. From the 4573 patients admitted for acute MI, 466 (10%) had a concurrent acute infection (median age 78 (66–85) y, 60% male), of whom 313 (67%) had a respiratory tract infection.…
Survival of Myeloid Malignancies in EUROPE: Results of the HAEMACARE Project.
2009
Abstract Abstract 3911 Poster Board III-847 Background Updated ICD-O and WHO classifications of Haematological Malignancies (HMs) take into account cell lineage, genotype, morphological aspects, immuno-histochemical and genetic characteristics, and clinical behaviour of the disease, dividing Lymphoid and Myeloid neoplasms in subcategories with possible similar aetiology or prognosis. Thus, good quality of morphological data on HMs is capital. The HAEMACARE project aimed to increase standardization and the availability of Cancer Registries (CRs) morphological data on HMs, in order to improve comparability of incidence, survival and prevalence across Europe. This study aims to present the HAE…
Therapy-Related Myeloid Neoplasms in Patients With Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Treated With All-Trans-Retinoic Acid and Anthracycline-Based Chemothe…
2010
Purpose We analyzed the incidence, risk factors, and outcome of therapy-related myeloid neoplasms (t-MNs) in patients with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) in first complete remission (CR). Patients and Methods From 1996 to 2008, 1,025 patients with APL were enrolled onto three sequential trials (LPA96, LPA99, and LPA2005) of the Programa Español para el Tratamiento de Enfermedades Hematológicas and received induction and consolidation therapy with all-trans-retinoic acid (ATRA) and anthracycline-based chemotherapy. Results Seventeen of 918 patients who achieved CR developed t-MN (10 with < 20% and seven with ≥ 20% of bone marrow blasts) after a median of 43 months from CR. Partial and…
