Complex-Valued Independent Component Analysis of Natural Images

Linear independent component analysis (ICA) learns simple cell receptive fields fromnatural images. Here,we showthat linear complex-valued ICA learns complex cell properties from Fourier-transformed natural images, i.e. two Gabor-like filters with quadrature-phase relationship. Conventional methods for complex-valued ICA assume that the phases of the output signals have uniform distribution. We show here that for natural images the phase distributions are, however, often far from uniform. We thus relax the uniformity assumption and model also the phase of the sources in complex-valued ICA. Statistical dependence is a type of relation between different characteristics measured on the same units. At one extreme is deterministic dependence; at the other is statistical independence, where the distribution of one variable is the same for all levels of the other. With more than two variables, an important distinction is between marginal and conditional dependence. In many contexts, the degree of dependence may be summarized by a suitable measure of association, perhaps as part of a general model. Reference is made to graphical models. The work of the Greek Jesuit originally from Scio, Tommaso Stanislao Velasti, constitutes a compendium of the philhellenic ideology which, starting from the second half of the eighteenth century, influenced the irredentist processes which in 1821 led Greece to proclaim its independence from the Sublime Porte. Dalį Ilūkstės apskrities lenkų ir lietuvių karinės pajėgos okupavo 1919 m. vasarą. Lenkų valdžios įstaigos nedelsdamos įtraukė 6 apskrities rytinės dalies valsčius ir Gryvos miestą į savo valstybės sudėtį ir atsisakė svarstyti šį klausimą su Latvijos atstovais. Klausimas buvo išspręstas tiktai 1920 m. liepos pradžioje, kai dėl Raudonosios armijos puolimo lenkų kariuomenė buvo priversta pasitraukti iš Ilūkstės apskrities. Tuo pasinaudojo Latvijos pusė, tuo momentu pagal savo galimybes užimdami dalį tos teritorijos. Likusią užėmė lietuviai, kurie jau nuo 1919 m. vasaros buvo rūpimoje Ilūkstės apskrities dalyje. The Republic of Finland was established after a bloody civil war between the Reds and the Whites in 1918. This chapter analyses the emergence of Finnish independence and the role higher education played in the new republic in the 1920s and 1930s. During this period, the University of Helsinki was Finland’s dominant higher education institution, even though one public pedagogical college and seven private higher education institutions were also established: two universities (one Swedish-speaking and one Finnish-speaking), three business schools, a technical university, and a higher education institution of social sciences.

A multiple-response chi-square framework for the analysis of Free-Comment and Check-All-That-Apply data

International audience; Free-Comment (FC) and Check-All-That-Apply (CATA) provide a contingency table containing citation counts of descriptors by products. The analyses performed on this table are most often related to the chi-square statistic. However, such practices are not well suited because they consider experimental units as being the citations (one descriptor for one product by one subject) while the evaluations (vector of citations for one product by one subject) should be considered instead.
