Investigating Long-Range Dependence in E-Commerce Web Traffic

This paper addresses the problem of investigating long-range dependence (LRD) and self-similarity in Web traffic. Popular techniques for estimating the intensity of LRD via the Hurst parameter are presented. Using a set of traces of a popular e-commerce site, the presence and the nature of LRD in Web traffic is examined. Our results confirm the self-similar nature of traffic at a Web server input, however the resulting estimates of the Hurst parameter vary depending on the trace and the technique used.
Measuring equity in health: a normative decomposition

This paper proposes a new approach to the measurement of equality of opportunity in health, based on the path independent Atkinson index of equality. The proposed decomposition is applied both to the ex-ante and the ex-post methodologies recently adopted by the literature. The approach is applied to the measurement of equality of opportunity in health using ten waves of the British Household Panel Survey. Results confirm that socioeconomic background is an important factor determining individual health in adulthood while the incidence of equality of opportunity is around one third of the overall equality according to a substantial stable pattern over years. HCV is an important cause of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). HCV NS5A domain-1 interacts with cellular proteins inducing pro-oncogenic pathways. Thus, we explore genetic variations in NS5A domain-1 and their association with HCC, by analyzing 188 NS5A sequences from HCV genotype-1b infected DAA-naïve cirrhotic patients: 34 with HCC and 154 without HCC. Recent content-based image retrieval systems offer an interactive visual browsing of images databases. These methods perform a classification of images (offline) into a search tree for users browsing (online). The bluefin tuna or Thunnus thynnus is one of the widely recognised fish species since ancient times. Italy is the most important players in the international arena, however, the introduction of a system of total allowable catches and other measures established by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, has deeply changed the competitive positioning of Italy. The aim of this study is to perform an analysis of the comparative advantage of Italy by using the relative trade advantage index. The role of the accumulation of poverty and unemployment for health disadvantages

Health inequality is an important aspect of how advantages and disadvantages are distributed within societies. We extend previous research by considering how trajectories of poverty and employment affect self-reported health among young adults. We use data from the German Socio-Economic Panel, restricting the analytical sample to those who were 25 to 45 year-old in 2005. We calculated the indexes that account for persistence and intensity of poverty and employment on 10-year-long individual-level employment and household-level poverty trajectories. (Urtica dioica L.) w stężeniach 2,5, 5,0, 10,0, 20,0, 40,0% wobec fitopatogennego szczepu Alternaria solani. Aktywność przeciwgrzybową ekstraktów z pokrzywy określono w oparciu o indeks tempa wzrostu grzybni oraz indeks kiełkowania zarodników. W badaniach określono również wpływ metod sterylizacji testowanych wyciągów na ich aktywność. Na podstawie uzyskanych wyników wykazano, iż ekstrakty sterylizowane parą wodną pod ciśnieniem nie wykazują aktywności przeciwgrzybowej. W przypadku ekstraktu z korzenia, który charakteryzował się większą aktywnością inhibicyjną, uzyskano zaledwie 7% redukcję tempa wzrostu grzybni.
