Arsenic, cadmium, chromium, and nickel are classified by IARC as human carcinogens (Group 1), while lead as a probable/possible carcinogen to humans (Group 2A). We explored associations between occupational exposure to metals and breast, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL), colorectal, prostate, and stomach cancer in the MCC-Spain population based case-control study. Methods The analyses were based on 3047 controls, and 1499 breast, 1539 colorectal, 332 CLL, 1070 prostate, and 382 stomach cancer cases. Birefringent porous silicon membranes for optical sensing

In this work anisotropic porous silicon is investigated as a material for optical sensing. Birefringence and sensitivity of the anisotropic porous silicon membranes are thoroughly studied in the framework of Bruggeman model which is extended to incorporate the influence of environment effects, such as silicon oxidation. The membranes were also characterized optically demonstrating sensitivity as high as 1245 nm/RIU at 1500 nm. This experimental value only agrees with the theory when it takes into consideration the effect of silicon oxidation. When social enterprises, being defined by their social mission and profitability, internationalize, they need to\ud respond to institutional logics in the host country. By juxtaposing institutional logic and entry mode choice\ud literature, this paper shows how social enterprises accommodate different institutional logics when they enter\ud foreign markets. Octave Spanning Supercontinuum in Titanium Dioxide Waveguides

International audience; We report on the experimental generation of an octave-spanning supercontinuum in a 2.2 cm-long titanium dioxide optical waveguide with two zero dispersion wavelengths. The resulting on-chip supercontinuum reaches the visible wavelength range as well as the mid-infrared region by using a femtosecond fiber laser pump at 1.64 µm.

A close examination of the intersection of printed and unpublished sources allows, in a comprehensive manner, to reconstruct the history of the project of the Vocabularium iurisprudentiae Romanae. Within this unitary framework the idea that interpolationism was based on a lexical motive, and not on a juridical one, is discussed. Eine eingehende Überprüfung von gedruckten und ungedruckten Quellen ermöglicht es, die Projektgeschichte des Vocabularium iurisprudentiae Romanae vollständig zu rekonstruieren. In diesem Rahmen wird die Vorstellung erörtert, nach der hinter der zeitgenössischen Interpolationenkritik ein wesentlich lexikalischer, nicht aber juristischer, Beweggrund zu erblicken sei.

Pētījuma mērķis bija noskaidrot sakarības starp intuitīvu ēšanu, ĶMI un ēšanas pārliecībām sieviešu izlasē (N=514) un noskaidrot, vai pastāv atšķirības starp gados jaunākām (18-40) sievietēm (n=259) un gados vecākām (41-69) sievietēm (n=255). Pētījumā tika izmantotas intuitīvas ēšanas skala - 2 un ēšanas pārliecību aptauja. Traditional means of inquiry have struggled with the difficulty of capturing the future; thus, the methods for managing things to come remain scarce.
