catena-Poly[[aquasodium(I)]-μ-[2,2′-(disulfanediyl)bis(pyridineN-oxide)]-μ-(pyridine-2-thiolato 1-oxide)]
2009
There are two monomeric units in the asymmetric unit of the polymeric title compound, [Na(C(5)H(4)NOS)(C(10)H(8)N(2)O(2)S(2))(H(2)O)](n). The Na(I) ions are six coordinated by four O atoms, one S atom and one water mol-ecule, forming a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond stabilizes the conformation of the mol-ecule. The crystal packing is consolidated by inter-molecular O-H⋯O, O-H⋯N and O-H⋯S hydrogen bonds, π-π inter-actions [with centroid-centroid distances of 3.587 (2) Å] together with weak C-H⋯π inter-actions. The mol-ecules are linked into polymeric chains along the b-axis direction.
Tetra-μ-chlorido-bis(18-crown-6)platinum(II)dipotassium(I)
2010
In the title compound, [K(2)PtCl(4)(C(12)H(24)O(6))(2)], the Pt(II) ion is located on an inversion centre and is coordinated by four Cl atoms, forming a square-planar geometry. The K(I) ion is coordinated by six O atoms of the crown ether and two bridging Cl atoms. The K(I) ion is displaced by 0.756 (2) Å from the mean plane of the six O atoms of the crown ether. The mol-ecules are connected by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming an infinite two-dimensional network parallel to the (10) plane. Intra- and inter-molecular C-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds are also observed.
Tetraaquabis[3-(2-pyridylsulfanyl)propionato N-oxide]nickel(II)
2009
In the centrosymmetric title compound, [Ni(C8H8NO3S)2(H2O)4], the NiII ion, which lies on an inversion centre, is six coordinated by four water molecules and two propionate O atoms from two 2-pyridylsulfanylpropionate N-oxide ligands, forming a slightly distorted octahedral geometry. An intramolecular O—H...O hydrogen bond stabilizes the molecular conformation. The crystal packing is consolidated by intermolecular O—H...O and C—H...O hydrogen bonding.
Diaqua[5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4-chlorophenyl)porphyrinato-κ4N]iron(III) trifluoromethanesulfonate–4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde–water (1/1/2)
2014
In the title compound, [Fe(C44H24Cl4N4)(H2O)2](SO3CF3)·C8H8O3·2H2O, the FeIIIcation is chelated by the four N atoms of the deprotonated tetrakis(4-chlorotetraphenyl)porphyrin (TClPP) and further coordinated by two water molecules in a distorted octahedral geometry. In the crystal, the cations, anions, 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde and water molecules of crystallization are linked by classical O—H...O hydrogen bonds and weak C—H...O and C—H...Cl hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture. The crystal packing is further stabilized by weak C—H...π interactions involving pyrrole and benzene rings. π–π stacking between parallel benzene rings of adjacent 4-hydroxy-3-met…
Applying Support Vector Machines for Gene Ontology based gene function prediction.
2004
Abstract Background The current progress in sequencing projects calls for rapid, reliable and accurate function assignments of gene products. A variety of methods has been designed to annotate sequences on a large scale. However, these methods can either only be applied for specific subsets, or their results are not formalised, or they do not provide precise confidence estimates for their predictions. Results We have developed a large-scale annotation system that tackles all of these shortcomings. In our approach, annotation was provided through Gene Ontology terms by applying multiple Support Vector Machines (SVM) for the classification of correct and false predictions. The general perform…
The methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase C677T polymorphism and the risk of congenital heart diseases: a literature review
2014
Congenital Heart Diseases (CHDs) are the most commonand serious developmental anomaly and the leading non-infectious cause of mortality in the first year of life. Despite the advances in diagnosis and treatment, understanding of the developmental causes and aetiologies of CHDs has been limited. The hyperhomocysteinemia is one of the proved risk factors related to the occurrence of CHDs. The connection between cardiac defects, folate and hyperhomocysteinemia could be explained by a mutation in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene. Indeed, the C677T MTHFR mutation produces a thermolabile variant of MTHFR with reduced enzymatic action resulting in higher plasma levels of homocy…
Determinants of endometrial receptivity.
2005
Understanding the molecular changes that occur during the window of implantation is fundamental to our knowledge of human reproduction. Lately, the development of microarray technology has allowed this process to be studied from a global molecular perspective. In the last 2 years, researchers have focused their efforts on throwing light on the gene expression profile of the receptive endometrium. The genes hold the key to the development of the endometrium at any stage, and we have focused our work on the window of implantation. The four most recently published works in this field have revealed a long list of genes that are up- or downregulated at the time of implantation. Although these st…
Microarray-Based Gene Expression Analysis of Hepatocellular Carcinoma
2009
Microarray studies have successfully shed light on various aspects of the molecular mechanisms behind the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), such as the identification of novel molecular subgroups and the genetic profiles associated with metastasis and venous invasion. These experiments, mainly comprising genome wide profiling, potentially represent the basis of novel targeted therapeutic strategies in HCC. In response, we summarize the multiple reported expression profiles in HCC associated with HCC development, novel subgroups, venous invasion and metastasis.
From High-Throughput Microarray-Based Screening to Clinical Application: The Development of a Second Generation Multigene Test for Breast Cancer Prog…
2013
Several multigene tests have been developed for breast cancer patients to predict the individual risk of recurrence. Most of the first generation tests rely on proliferation-associated genes and are commonly carried out in central reference laboratories. Here, we describe the development of a second generation multigene assay, the EndoPredict test, a prognostic multigene expression test for estrogen receptor (ER) positive, human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER2) negative (ER+/HER2−) breast cancer patients. The EndoPredict gene signature was initially established in a large high-throughput microarray-based screening study. The key steps for biomarker identification are discussed in det…
