Grosor coroideo en la retinosis pigmentaria

2013

Impact of BMGIM Music Therapy on Emotional State in Patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Randomized Controlled Trial

2021

Este artículo pertenece al número especial "Novel Insight into the Diagnosis and Management of Crohn?s Disease". Background. Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) have a high prevalence of emotional disturbances which worsen the symptoms of the disease. As a therapeutic alternative that is part of a comprehensive care alongside medication, the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (BMGIM) music-assisted therapy has achie…

Adenine nucleotide metabolism during anoxia and postanoxic recovery in insects

1996

Severe hypoxia (anoxia), if maintained for more than a few minutes, causes irreversible damage in humans and other mammals. Why mammals are so vulnerable to anoxia is not fully understood. It is therefore of interest to study animals that are more tolerant of anoxia in order to identify physiological and metabolic properties that are correlated with a high tolerance of anoxia. Insects have high metabolic rates and their energy metabolism is dependent on aerobic ATP production. In insects, as in mammals, anoxia causes a rapid breakdown of physiological function, resulting in a state similar to rigor mortis. This is accompanied by a precipitous decrease in metabolic rate. In contrast to mamma…

IP 3 signalling regulates exogenous RNA i in C aenorhabditis elegans

2015

RNA interference (RNAi) is a widespread and widely exploited phenomenon. Here, we show that changing inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) signalling alters RNAi sensitivity in Caenorhabditis elegans. Reducing IP3 signalling enhances sensitivity to RNAi in a broad range of genes and tissues. Conversely up-regulating IP3 signalling decreases sensitivity. Tissue-specific rescue experiments suggest IP3 functions in the intestine. We also exploit IP3 signalling mutants to further enhance the sensitivity of RNAi hypersensitive strains. These results demonstrate that conserved cell signalling pathways can modify RNAi responses, implying that RNAi responses may be influenced by an animal's physiology…

New skulls of the basal sauropodomorph Plateosaurus trossingensis from Frick, Switzerland: is there more than one species?

2021

The Triassic basal sauropodomorph Plateosaurus trossingensis is well-known from mass accumulations at the German localities of Trossingen and Halberstadt and the Swiss locality of Frick, and is significant especially regarding its ta-phonomy and proposed developmental plasticity. These implications, however, rely on the assumption that this material derives from a single species, which has been questioned. Here we describe new skull material from Frick including eight complete and six partial skulls, more than doubling the number of known skulls of P. trossingensis. This exceptional sample size allows for gaining a deeper understanding of variability that may occur in a single species. The …

Inositol supplementation and IVF outcome: preliminary data

2012

Myo-Inositol (MI) is involved in several aspects of human reproduction. Elevated concentrations of myo-inositol in human follicular fluids, in fact, seem to play a positive role in follicular maturity, since to represent a possible marker of good oocyte quality. Nevertheless its positive role in PCOS patients is a consequence of a defect in the insulin signaling (inositol- containing phosphoglycan mediators) pathway that seems to be implicated in the pathogenesis of insulin resistance. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of myo-inositol supplementation to “standard” therapy in PCOS women and in “poor responders”, submitted to In Vitro Fecundation (IVF) cycles. In particular, we …
