Contingency factors on the success of services for social integration and job placement schemes

2009

The success of a strategy depends, to a large extent, on the contingency factors that condition the functioning of an organisation. This study presents empirical research to contrast the existence of a significant relationship between the implementation of a particular strategy (in this case, related to the management of job placement and social insertion schemes) and a set of given structural parameters or contingency factors, in particular, the organisational structure of the firm such as time with the firm, firm size, technology used and organisational culture. The empirical analysis is applied to the strategies used by local development and employment officers with regard to the managem…

Les mouvements de capitaux en union économique et monétaire : approches historiques et théoriques

2019

The liberalization of international capital flows seems linked to the increase and worsening of financial crisis. Since the financial crisis in 2007-2008, the ideological dimension of “happy globalization” has brought to light and given new strength to dissentient voices that could not be heard before. This thesis tries to evaluate the importance of capital flows on the stability of à financial system. Its purpose is to compare different financial systems and levels of financial liberalization, using the Economic and Monetary Union as an example because it combined full liberalization of the capital market within the zone a well as in relations with the outside. We have considered the need …

Implant failure and history of failed endodontic treatment: A retrospective case-control study

2017

Background Residual bacterial biofilm and/or bacteria in planktonic form may be survived in the bone following an extraction of an infected tooth that was endodontically treated unsuccessfully Failed endodontic treatment may be associated with failure of implants to osseointegrate in the same sites. Therefore, the aim of this retrospective case-control study is to examine the risk of implant failure in previous failed endodontic sites. Material and methods This retrospective case-control study is based on 94 dental records of implants placed at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry. Dental records of patients who received an implant in sites with previously failed endodontic thera…

Mixed heuristic-non linear optimization of energy management for hydrogen storage-based multi carrier hubs

2014

In this paper, an heuristic and non-linear programming based algorithm to optimally operate an energy hub plant is proposed. The energy hub plant described in this work is the test system for the European INGRID research project. The Energy Management System defines the optimal energy flows dispatch in order to obtain the energy balance and the maximum profit for the owner of the plant. The problem is highly constrained and non-linear, for this reason the methodology cannot rely on Linear Programming (LP) methods. The Energy Management System manages two energy carriers, electricity and hydrogen, interfacing three distribution networks: the electricity, the hydrogen and the methane networks…

Energy use–GDP deterministic cointegration: progress towards EU-15 Kyoto targets

2015

This article examines whether the energy consumption–GDP relationship is in long-term equilibrium for EU-15 countries. Unlike many previous works, we apply a nonlinear unit root test introduced by Kapetanios et al. (2003a) and extended by Chong et al. (2008) that identifies not only deterministic cointegration, but also the stronger concept of stochastic cointegration. The results yield a clear pattern: Austria, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal and Spain must achieve greater emissions reductions between 2009 and 2012 to reach their respective Kyoto targets.

Comparative study of the effectiveness of educational policies of inclusion in France and sub-Saharan Africa: a literature review

2013

Recommended by international bodies (UNESCO, 2006; 2008), inclusive education is based on the principle of equal opportunity. It aims to promote inclusion in the broad sense of the term by addressing specific audiences excluded or marginalized from educational systems. In recent years, regulatory frameworks have been defined for the education of certain categories excluded from educational systems including children with disabilities. Educational policies concerned with taking into account the needs of this group are also implemented. Do these policies promote effective integration of students with disabilities? To what extent can these policies be considered as effective? This paper presen…

Enterprise 2.0 and 3.0 in Education

2012

The aim of the following chapter is to analyze students’ view on Enterprise 2.0 and 3.0 of Web technologies in engineering and business education. The meaning of the key concepts of Enterprise 2.0and 3.0 and needs analysis is studied. Moreover, the study demonstrates how the key concepts are related to the idea of education. Finally, the study presents how the steps of the process are related: Enterprise 2.0 and 3.0 ? Enterprise 2.0 and 3.0 in engineering and business education ? empirical study. The following hypothesis for further studies is put forth: in order to develop the students’ view on Enterprise 2.0 and 3.0 in education, it is necessary to promote students’ use of Enterprise 2.0 …

A Multifunctional Public Lighting Infrastructure, Design and Experimental Test

2017

Nowadays, the installation of efficient lighting sources and Information and Communications Technologies can provide economic benefits, energy efficiency, and visual comfort requirements. More advantages can be derived if the public lighting infrastructure integrates a smart grid. This study presents an experimental multifunctional infrastructure for public lighting, installed in Palermo. The system is able to provide smart lighting functions (hotspot Wi-Fi, video-surveillances, car and pedestrian access control, car parking monitoring and support for environmental monitoring). A remote control and monitoring platform called “Centro Servizi” processes the information coming from…

Commissioning Experience with the ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger System

2007

The ATLAS Level-1 Calorimeter Trigger is one of the main elements of the first stage of event selection for the ATLAS experiment at the LHC. The input stage consists of a mixed analogue/digital component taking trigger sums from the ATLAS calorimeters. The trigger logic is performed in a digital, pipelined system with several stages of processing, largely based on FPGAs, which perform programmable algorithms in parallel with a fixed latency to process about 300 Gbyte/s of input data. The real-time output consists of counts of different types of physics objects and energy sums. The production of final modules started in 2006, and installation of these modules and the necessary infrastructure…
