Complex plant quality—microbiota–population interactions modulate the response of a specialist herbivore to the defence of its host plant

Many specialist herbivores have evolved strategies to cope with plant defences, with gut microbiota potentially participating to such adaptations. In this study, we assessed whether the history of plant use (population origin) and microbiota may interact with plant defence adaptation. We tested whether microbiota enhance the performance of Melitaea cinxia larvae on their host plant, Plantago lanceolata and increase their ability to cope the defensive compounds, iridoid glycosides (IGs). Kuvaamme artikkelissamme yhteisössä toteutettavaa palveluoppimispedagogiikkaa (community engaged service learning pedagogy) Toronton yliopiston suomen kielen ohjelman ja Toronton Suomi-kodin eli suomenkielisen seniorikeskuksen välillä. Laadullisen tutkimuksen päätavoitteena oli pureutua siihen, miten opettaja ymmärtää ja rakentaa pedagogisen auktoriteettinsa koulun arjessa. Koska auktoriteettisuhde ei todennu ajatuksissa, puheessa ja kuvitelmissa, tutkin myös, miten auktoriteetti toimii ja saa oikeutuksen luokkatilanteessa. This study examines the association between teacher–child interaction quality and children's self‐regulation in Finnish and Portuguese toddler classrooms. The participants included 230 Finnish (M = 29; SD = 3 months) and 283 Portuguese (M = 30, SD = 4 months) toddlers and their teachers (n = 43 Finland; n = 29 Portugal). The children's behavioural self‐regulation (attention, working memory, and inhibition control) was individually tested, and the teachers evaluated the children's self‐regulation skills in the classroom.
