Contamination of soil by copper affects the dynamics, diversity, and activity of soil bacterial communities involved in wheat decomposition and carbo…

2009

ABSTRACT A soil microcosm experiment was conducted to evaluate the influence of copper contamination on the dynamics and diversity of bacterial communities actively involved in wheat residue decomposition. In the presence of copper, a higher level of CO 2 release was observed, which did not arise from greater wheat decomposition but from a higher level of stimulation of soil organic matter mineralization (known as the priming effect). Such functional modifications may be related to significant modifications in the diversity of active bacterial populations characterized using the DNA stable-isotope probing approach.

Learning Dynamic Geometry: Implementing Rotations

1995

This paper presents research in which we observed students of various ages and ability levels solving problems by using several pieces of software for solid geometry with different user interfaces. We evaluated the influence of the software on students’ learning, ways of reasoning, and the kind of mental images generated.

Study of 3D sound for an audio-visual interaction in enriched virtual environment

2011

Most of the applications integrating 3D sound in virtual environment are limited to acoustic simulation. The objective of this thesis is to study the added value of 3D sound in the interaction with virtual environment. We developed an audio stimulation technique called "Artificial Spatial Audio Sensation: (ASAS)" based on the creation of audio effects. This technique conveys the sensations of spatialized sound that allows accurate sound source localization in azimuth and in elevation. In order to improve the localization time we also developed a model that integrates Head-Related Transfer Function (HRTF) with the ASAS technique. For the simulation of the depth of spatial sound sources, we d…

Linearizing Auditory Distance Estimates by Means of Virtual Acoustics

2008

Auditory distance estimates are not linearly related to physical distances: people tend to overestimate close physical distances, and underestimate far distances [I]. We have modeled a virtual listening environment whose objective is to provide a linear relationship between perceived and physical distance. The simulated environment consists of a trapezoidal membrane with specific absorbing properties at the boundaries. A physics-based model simulates acoustic wave propagation in this virtual space and provides auditory distance cues, namely intensity and direct-to-reverberant energy ratio. Simulations predict the linearity of the psychophysical function relating physical distance to perceiv…

2MOLCAS as a development platform for quantum chemistry software

2004

This work presents the quantum chemistry package MOLCAS, with emphasis on its usefulness as a platform for developing new quantum chemical codes, and the reader is assumed to be familiar with such a process. The development of new codes for quantum chemistry is a time-consuming job that can be dramatically simplified by using libraries for standard problems (such as calculation of integrals), and tools to surmount computer language and operating system limitations. The MOLCAS quantum chemistry software contains modules for a variety of quantum chemical methods, such as Hartree-Fock (HF), density functional theory (DFT), coupled-cluster (CC), and multiconfigurational (MCSCF) approaches, incl…

Development of the BCI Device Controlling C++ Software, Based on Existing Open Source Projects

2021

The possibility of using the BCI open source code for building BCI controlled device, based on small AVR or ARM microcontrollers was considered. Some techniques to extract code snippets from other BCI projects were presented in the case of OpenViBE as the code donor. Problem with obtaining driver source codes for factory BCI devices has been pointed out.

Bill2d - a software package for classical two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems

2015

Abstract We present Bill2d , a modern and efficient C++ package for classical simulations of two-dimensional Hamiltonian systems. Bill2d can be used for various billiard and diffusion problems with one or more charged particles with interactions, different external potentials, an external magnetic field, periodic and open boundaries, etc. The software package can also calculate many key quantities in complex systems such as Poincare sections, survival probabilities, and diffusion coefficients. While aiming at a large class of applicable systems, the code also strives for ease-of-use, efficiency, and modularity for the implementation of additional features. The package comes along with a use…

Magnetic Langmuir-Blodgett films of ferritin with different iron contents.

2006

Magnetic Langmuir-Blodgett films of four ferritin derivatives with different iron contents containing 4220, 3062, 2200, and 1200 iron atoms, respectively, have been prepared by using the adsorption properties of a 6/1 mixed monolayer of methyl stearate (SME) and dioctadecyldimethylammonium bromide (DODA). The molecular organization of the mixed SME/DODA monolayer is strongly affected by the presence of the water-soluble protein in the subphase as shown by pi-A isotherms, BAM images, and imaging ellipsometry at the water-air interface. BAM images reveal the heterogeneity of this mixed monolayer at the air-water interface. We propose that the ferritin is located under the mixed matrix in thos…

Design of a real-time spectroscopic rotating compensator ellipsometer without systematic errors

2014

6th International Conference on Spectroscopic Ellipsometry (ICSE), Kyoto, JAPAN, MAY 26-31, 2013; International audience; We describe a spectroscopic ellipsometer in the visible domain (400-800 nm) based on a rotating compensator technology using two detectors. The classical analyzer is replaced by a fixed Rochon birefringent beamsplitter which splits the incidence light wave into two perpendicularly polarized waves, one oriented at +45 degrees and the other one at-45 degrees according to the plane of incidence. Both emergent optical signals are analyzed by two identical CCD detectors which are synchronized by an optical encoder fixed on the shaft of the step-by-step motor of the compensato…
