Effects of menu structure and touch screen scrolling style on the variability of glance durations during in-vehicle visual search tasks.

The effects of alternative navigation device display features on drivers' visual sampling efficiency while searching forpoints of interest were studied in two driving simulation experiments with 40 participants. Given that the number of display items was sufficient, display features that facilitate resumption of visual search following interruptions were expected to lead to more consistent in-vehicle glance durations. As predicted, compared with a grid-style menu, searching information in a list-style menu while driving led to smaller variance in durations of in-vehicle glances, in particular with nine item displays. The self-assembly of the oppositely charged water-soluble porphyrins, cobalt tetramethylpyridinium porphyrin (CoTMPyP(4+)) and cobalt tetrasulphonatophenyl porphyrin (CoTPPS(4-)), at the interface with an organic solvent to form molecular "rafts", provides an excellent catalyst to perform the interfacial four-electron reduction of oxygen by lipophilic electron donors such as tetrathiafulvalene (TTF). Effect of air on oxygen p-doped graphene on SiO2

Stability in ambient air or in vacuum-controlled atmosphere of molecular oxygen-induced p-type doping of graphene monolayer on SiO2 substrate on Si is investigated by micro-Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM). The Raman 2D and G bands spectral positions and amplitude ratio are affected by the permanence in air atmosphere in a time scale of months whereas the vacuum safely maintains the doping effects determined through Raman bands. No morphological effects are induced by the doping and post-doping treatments. A reactivity of ambient molecular gas with stably trapped oxygen is suggested to induce the doping modification. Production of Phosphorescent Coatings on 6082 Aluminum Using Sr0.95Eu0.02Dy0.03Al2O4-δ Powder and Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation

In this study, a new approach for producing phosphorescent aluminum coatings was studied. Using the plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) process, a porous oxide coating was produced on the Al6082 aluminum alloy substrate. Afterwards, activated strontium aluminate (SrAl2O4: Eu2+, Dy3+) powder was filled into the cavities and pores of the PEO coating, which resulted in a surface that exhibits long-lasting luminescence. The structural and optical properties were studied using XRD, SEM, and photoluminescence measurements. Optimized bath for electroless deposition of palladium on amorphous alumina membranes

A new bath for the electroless deposition of palladium on anodic alumina (AA) membranes is proposed. It was found that the optimal conditions for the uniform deposition of palladium, with minimal damage to the AA membranes, were under conditions of pH 8.4 and plating times shorter than 30 min. The deposited Pd layer was detected by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The morphology of the AA membrane before and after plating was examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). X-ray Photoelectron-spectroscopy Investigation of Pumice-supported Nickel-catalysts

Pumice-supported nickel catalysts, prepared by the method of slow homogeneous precipitation with urea, were analysed by x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). By comparison with similarly prepared silica- and alumina-supported nickel catalysts, a preferential interaction of Ni2+ with Al3+ of the support has been determined. A quantitative XPS analysis indicated large segregation of nickel to the surface. The treatment with H2 at 673 K and 1073 K produced a partial reduction of Ni+2 to Ni0. The extent of the reduction was largest at 1073 K and in this case the reduced Ni in the metallic phase was detectable by x-ray diffraction. Study by static SIMS, XPS and UPS of the adsorption of cyanogen on (100) Ni surfaces

Abstract The interaction of cyanogen with (100) Ni surfaces at room temperature was studied using secondary ion mass spectrometry in a static mode, and photoemission spectroscopies (XPS and UPS). It has been shown that cyanogen is adsorbed on this nickel surface in a dissociative mode: atomic carbon and nitrogen are present on the surface as well as CN fragments. These adsorbed species have been characterized by XPS and UPS. Increasing the temperature in the 400 K range increases the rate of the dissociation reaction of CN into atomic carbon and nitrogen. Trace Analysis of Plutonium and Technetium by Resonance Ionization Mass Spectrometry Using an Atomic Beam and a Laser Ion Source

A method for low level detection of plutonium and technetium is described with a detection limit of less than 107 atoms. Plutonium is a very toxic element due to its radioactive decay as well as its chemical behaviour. It was released to the environment in large amounts during the fifties and sixties of his century, principally by nuclear-weapon tests and some accidents. As a result about 0.4 − 4 mBq per gram 239Pu(T1/2 = 24390 y), corresponding to 4 × 108 − 4 × 109 atoms, can be found in the Northern Hemisphere in soil samples.

A surface EXAFS study of thin nickel deposits on (110) TiO2 surfaces

Abstract The first stages of nickel deposition on a clean (110) TiO 2 surface were studied using surface extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS). Experiments were performed on two kinds of nickel deposits, one of 0.8 equivalent monolayers and another of 1.6 equivalent monolayers. Depositions were performed on well characterized TiO 2 (110)-p(1 × 1) surfaces. The correlation of Auger experiments with EXAFS results showed that no islands were present on the surface; only two-dimensional growth of nickel was observed.
