High-dimensional one-way quantum processing enabled by optical d-level cluster states

2019

By introducing and modifying two-photon hyper-entangled states in the time-frequency domain using an on-chip micro-cavity, we succeed in generating high-dimensional cluster states, demonstrate d-level measurement-based quantum processing and show the state’s higher noise tolerance.

Focal switch: a new effect in low-Fresnel-number systems

2010

It is shown for the first time we believe, that when a spherical wave illuminates a certain type of diffracting screen, in addition to the expected focal-shift effect, depending on the value of the Fresnel number of the focusing system, a focal switch effect can appear, i.e., an increase in the height of the lateral lobe of the axial-intensity distribution over that of the central lobe.

Interference effect in lepton number violating and conserving meson decays for a left-right symmetric model

2021

We study the effect of interference on the lepton number violating~(LNV) and lepton number conserving~(LNC) three-body meson decays $M_1^{+}\to l_i^{+} l_j^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}$, that arise in a TeV scale Left Right Symmetric model~(LRSM) with degenerate or nearly degenerate right handed~(RH) neutrinos. LRSM contains three RH neutrinos and a RH gauge boson. The RH neutrinos with masses in the range of $M_N \sim$ (MeV - few GeV) can give resonant enhancement in the semi-leptonic LNV and LNC meson decays. In the case, where only one RH neutrino contributes to these decays, the predicted new physics branching ratio of semi-leptonic LNV and LNC meson decays $M_1^{+}\to l_i^{+} l_j^{+}\pi^{-}$ and $M_…

Temporal phase control of bound-bound and bound-free two-photon transitions in NO with two time-delayed cross-polarized pulses

2001

0953-4075; Temporal phase control over the multi-photoionization of NO is investigated experimentally The coherent excitation of the molecular system is achieved by a sequence of two phase-related non-Fourier-transform-limited laser pulses delivered by a nanosecond dye laser, The phase-locked pulses are produced by making use of an actively stabilized interferometer with a tunable pathlength difference. As the coherence time of the laser is comparable with the inhomogenous dephasing time of the medium, the measurements are performed with temporally overlapped pulses. In order to avoid the modulation of the ionic signal coming from optical interference, the linear polarizations of the two pu…

Entanglement swapping in a Franson interferometer setup

2007

We propose a simple scheme to swap the non local correlations, characteristic of a Franson interferometric setup, between pairs of frequency entangled photons emitted by distinct non linear crystals in a parametric down conversion process. Our scheme consists of two distinct sources of frequency entangled photons. One photon of each pair is sent to a separate Mach - Zender interferometer while the other photons of the pairs are mixed by a beam splitter and then detected in a Ou - Mandel interferometer. For suitably postselected joint measuremetns, the photons sent at the Mach -Zender show a coincidence photocount statistics which depends non locally on the settings of the two interferometer…

Single-shot color digital holography based on the fractional Talbot effect

2011

We present a method for recording on-axis color digital holograms in a single shot. Our system performs parallel phase-shifting interferometry by using the fractional Talbot effect for every chromatic channel simultaneously. A two-dimensional binary amplitude grating is used to generate Talbot periodic phase distributions in the reference beam. The interference patterns corresponding to the three chromatic channels are captured at once at different axial distances. In this scheme, one-shot recording and digital reconstruction allow for real-time measurement. Computer simulations and experimental results confirm the validity of our method.

Grating compensated dispersion-managed systems incorporating nonlinear optical loop mirrors

2006

In this work, we investigate the use of nonlinear optical loop mirrors (NOLMs) in DM fiber systems compensated by CFGs with GDR by launching a 128-bit Gaussian-shaped pseudo-random bit sequence having pulse width of 5 ps for simulating a 40 Gb/s system. The dispersion map contains a fiber segment of length 10.3 km and a CFG with dispersion of -15.6 ps/nm. We consider a lossless grating and the GDR is modeled by a sinusoidal function for simplicity. We have shown that the use of NOLMs can substantially improve the transmission performance in a grating-compensated DM fiber system even with presence of amplifier noise and random variations of GDR, parameters in CFGs along the propagation dista…

$\gamma W$-box Inside-Out: Nuclear Polarizabilities Distort the Beta Decay Spectrum

2019

I consider the $\gamma W$-box correction to superallowed nuclear $\beta$-decays in the framework of dispersion relations. I address a novel effect of a distortion of the emitted electron energy spectrum by nuclear polarizabilities and show that this effect, while neglected in the literature, is sizable. I estimate its size in the approximation of a linear energy dependence, and using two models that are expected to give the lower and the upper bound. The respective correction to the $\beta^+$ spectrum is estimated to be $\Delta_R(E)=(1.6\pm1.6)\times10^{-4}{E}/{\rm MeV}$ assuming a conservative 100\% uncertainty. The effect is positive-definite and can be observed if a high-precision measur…

Forward Compton scattering with weak neutral current: Constraints from sum rules

2015

We generalize forward real Compton amplitude to the case of the interference of the electromagnetic and weak neutral current, formulate a low-energy theorem, relate the new amplitudes to the interference structure functions and obtain a new set of sum rules. We address a possible new sum rule that relates the product of the axial charge and magnetic moment of the nucleon to the 0th moment of the structure function $g_5(\nu,0)$. We apply the GDH and the finite energy sum rule for constraining the dispersive $\gamma Z$-box correction to the proton's weak charge.

NTD-GE-based microcalorimeter performance

2000

Our group has been developing x-ray microcalorimeters consisting of neutron transmutation doped (NTD) germanium thermistors attached to superconducting tin absorbers. We discuss the performance of single pixel x-ray detectors, and describe an array technology. In this paper we describe the read-out circuit that allows us to measure fast signals in our detectors as this will be important in understanding the primary cause of resolution broadening. We describe briefly a multiplexing scheme that allows a number of different calorimeters to be read out using a single JFET. We list the possible causes of broadening and give a description of the experiment which best demonstrates the cause of the…
