Prevalence and Time Trends in Myopia Among Children and Adolescents.

Background Myopia (near-sightedness) is increasing worldwide, especially in Asia. The aim of this study was to describe trends in the prevalence of myopia in Germany. Methods We analyzed data from the German Health Interview and Examination Survey for Children and Adolescents (KiGGS; baseline survey 2003-2006, N = 17 640; wave 2, 2014-2017, N = 15 023). The presence of myopia was determined from a parent questionnaire and validated by the use of a visual aid. The population prevalence of myopia was calculated. Capacity Estimation of ADSL links

Most tools designed to estimate the capacity of an Internet path require access on both end hosts of the path, which makes them difficult to deploy and use. In this paper we present a single-sided technique for measuring the capacity without the active cooperation of the destination host, focusing particularly on ADSL links. Compared to current methods used on broadband hosts, our approach generates two orders of magnitude less traffic and is much less intrusive. Sensitivity and mode spectrum of a frequency-output silicon pressure sensor

The vibrational mode spectrum of a silicon vibrating pressure sensor is investigated. Particular attention is given to the analysis of the vibration shapes, quality factors and relative sensitivity of the resonance frequencies as a function of pressure. It is shown that a pressure sensitivity of a few parts per million at one atmosphere can be achieved. Some comments are also made regarding an improved design of the device.
Organizational information and communication technologies and their influence on communication visibility and perceived proximity

This study investigates the relationships between the use of various organizational ICTs, communication visibility, and perceived proximity to distant colleagues. In addition, this study examines the interplay between visibility and proximity, to determine whether visibility improves proximity, or vice versa. These relationships are tested in a global company using two waves of panel survey data. ESM use increases communication visibility and perceived proximity, while controlling for prior levels of visibility, proximity, and the use of other organizational ICTs. Analyzing the security of Windows 7 and Linux for cloud computing

We review and analyze the major security features and concerns in deploying modern commodity operating systems such as Windows 7 and Linux 2.6.38 in a cloud computing environment. We identify the security weaknesses and open challenges of these two operating systems when deployed in the cloud environment. In particular, we examine and compare various operating system security features which are critical in providing a secure cloud. These security features include authentication, authorization and access control, physical memory protection, privacy and encryption of stored data, network access and firewalling capabilities, and virtual memory.

A wireless sensor network is a wireless network of sensors aimed at monitoring physical events. It has ingratiated itself into almost all areas of human endeavors. Data dissemination in these networks is quite challenging and is generally accomplished by flooding. But flooding introduces broadcast storm problem due from implosion and overlap. To overcome this, topology management can prescribe a virtual backbone network to which routing is confined.
