This paper presents the UJI Industrial Robotics Telelaboratory, which lets Ph.D. and Master’s degree students perform robotics and computer vision tele-experiments. By using this system, students are able to program experiments remotely via the Web, in order to combine the use of a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to provide real-time vision processing, a conveyor belt, and a Motoman industrial manipulator. Factors related to study success in engineering education

Recent studies on student learning in higher education have paid attention to the relationships between characteristics of the learning environment and students' study orientations and study success. The purpose of the present paper is to examine these relationships in university level engineering education. The data were collected from Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland, by means of an Internet survey (n=394). Grade point average, credits per semester and students' qualitative evaluation of their learning outcomes were used as indicators of study success. Integration of Subject Related ICT in Schools Is Failing; Could Revival of System Dynamics and Simulations Be an Example towards Improvement?

A recent survey of teachers in 172 different Norwegian schools reveals that the integration of new technology into different subjects is far from the goals set by the Ministry. A total of around 1000 teachers responded to extensive questionnaires particularly developed for each one of 8 school subjects. The dominant uses in classrooms are related to standard software and Internet browsers. Very few teachers indicate that they apply software or technology going deeper into their subject teaching, promoting understanding and insight.

In this paper we present a work in progress of a new remote control system based on networked robots and FPGAs technology. The experimental validation has been carried out within the UJI (i.e. the acronym for University Jaume I) Robotics Manufacturing Cell. A new web interface for rule net-based distributed control systems is proposed. It is applied to the monitoring of a chemical analysis system coupled with a wort fermentation process. A complete description of both the chemical and the informatics system is presented. This interface offers the possibility of accessing the process from any Internet-connected device (PC, PDA, etc.), using a standard browser as the only software required. Typically, a single-packet transmission (SPT) occurs per cycle, leading to possibly long delay. With aggregated packet transmission (APT), nodes transmit a batch of packets in a single cycle. The potential benefits brought by an APT scheme include shorter delay, higher throughput, and higher energy efficiency. With the proliferation of 2G and 3G Telecom and other wireless networks hundred of millions of users will be able to access wireless services with their terminals in only a few years. In this paper we discuss the possibilities and limitations of existing and emerging mobile technologies and methodologies for porting information and functionality from traditional PCs to mobile devices and vice versa. We argue that in order to be able to properly port things between devices an equivalence concept for user interfaces is required.
